Root Flashing custom kernel

So I was under the impression that you could use ROM manager or ClockWork mod to install a custom kernel that I had downloaded to my SDcard. I downloaded a low-volt, overclock kernel and I have discovered that I don't quite know to flash it to my phone. Can anyone assist me please?

in rom manager click on install rom from sd card...choose the kernel on your sd card...once u click on the kernel it will give u the option to backup...do that if u haven't already...no need to wipe...once u do all that, rom manager will do the rest...it will boot into recovery, backup existing rom, and install the new kernel...its a great app

I'm just stupid. My mac unpacked the zip when I downloaded it and I, as an engineer, and incredibly prone to over think things. (pun unintended)

In any case, is there a ROM or kernel that unlocks 720p video?

nope, not yet...supposed to be an OTA coming that will unlock it but we will lose root...the devs will take care of us!
