Root Flashing or recovering Sense with an ext 4 partitioned SD

JEast

Newbie
I've searched and can't find this answer. I've learned a lot about partitioning, so it was worth it. Been a flashaholic for almost 2 years. I finally partitioned my SD card last week and moved to ext 3, then ext 4 in order to flash team dirt's RemICS. I'm using DT a2sd. I intalled all of my apps from Play one by one then restored their data with TB. It took a long time to get that ROM stable and load all my apps manually for a2sd to work properly. I read that Sense doesn't work with ext 4.
Questions-

1) If I want to recover one of my saved sense roms (or flash a new one) are there additional steps beyond what I've always done when I've flashed new 3.x and lower? Can I batch restore user apps with TB like I did before partitioning and moving to ext 4?

2) If I recover a saved Sense, then go back to an ICS nand, try a new ICS, or a JB rom, will I have to copy my SD card, format, partition, and one by one install each time for a2sd?

3) If I flash another 4.x+ from current 4.x+, same as 2), what's the best process to retain all SD card pics, music, etc., and apps?

As always, I thank you all for your help!

TB stores its backups on your sdcard but not the partitioned side. IF you partitioned the whole card then you will need to copy everything to the computer repartition the card for Sense then copy things back.

If you restore a nandroid your SDCARD does not change. If you are using ext4 then sense wont see it period. so for that yes you would need to repartition the card. EDIT: See http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...g-sense-ext-4-partitioned-sd.html#post4882528 (Only bad thing about moving on is you no longer keep up :smokingsomb:)

3) If I flash another 4.x+ from current 4.x+, same as 2), what's the best process to retain all SD card pics, music, etc., and apps?

Again SDCARD should not be affected but always backup before screwing around with things

As always, I thank you all for your help!

If you are using an ext4 partition you CAN use it on Sense ROMs, however there are only two versions of kernel that currently support it for Sense.

These are both by the dev ca1ne:

[KERNEL][WIP] Classic Sense Kernel v1.5 [JUL 22 2012][GINGERBREAD][SENSE] - xda-developers

[KERNEL][WIP] Underworld Sense Kernel v0.8 [Jul 16 2012][GINGERBREAD][SENSE] - xda-developers

Using these means that you don't have to constantly repartition your sd-card. You will/should be able to flash between your ROM choices no problem.

Awesome. You guys make this forum amazing. Robobob, do you recommend one of those over the other? When reverting to 3.x, I read that I now need to wipe sdext along with everything else prior to flashing or recovering? True? If all goes well, this kernel will communicate with the rom to see everything on ext4? Of course I'll backup before trying this and TB user apps, but is TB even necessary now?

THANK YOU!!

THANK YOU!!

Underworld - has the ability to under/over clock and change the voltage (HAVS).
Classic - Is a stock-ish sense kernel with all the bells of underworld.

I like Underworld for the HAVS and the rest but some phones don't play nicely with undervolting.

Sorry for the late response.
I get a bit confused with the 3.x reference, you mean Gingerbread (GB) right??
Anyways, if you are coming back from ICS to GB your apps on the sd ext do not need to be wiped.
When you go to ics to gb, or even from sense to aosp, and you are restoring your nandroid backup or flashing a new one just wipe system, boot, data, and clear cache and dalvik cache.
With TB I think its best to restore to internal data as sometimes apps don't get restored properly, at least in my experience.

Hope this makes sense and helps:)
