Root Flashing recovery image issue

Hi there,

I have tried to flash the latest clockworkmod recovery image for my desire outlined in here:

Touch Clockworkmod Recovery (CWM) for HTC Desire is Out, Too!

and i get the following error after i use the following command:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Error
bootloader signature checking
FAILED <remote signature verified fail>

Is this because I have S-ON?

I admit I thought you'd have to be S-Off to fastboot flash recovery.

And if you were, 4Ext Touch recovery would be my recommendation (which can also restore ClockworkMod nandroids - I used it to restore one of my CMW 2.5.0.7 backups just to see whether it really did work, and it was fine).
