Root Flashing roms

When flashing roms, will I have to flash radios as well or only for certain roms?

Since I'm a rooting n00b, I'm gonna need all sorts of info! Also what apps should I have? I currently have rom manager and titanium backup

Once you flash a MR2+ radio you wont need to flash a radio again. I suggest flashing the most recent radio before you flash your first rom

Download the rom and radio both prior to your first flash. When you flash the radio and reboot you will not have any signal don't worry it is normal. Delete the radio zip off your SD before you go to flash the rom. If you have any questions feel free to ask here;)

Ok. Thx. I shall try it when I get home from work. Lovely government computers and not being able to access files on phone make it slightly hard to do!

Found a MR2.5 radio file to download. When. It's done dl, i just move it to the root of the sd card (sdcard or root folder?), reboot into recovery, choose file and go? Then delete file once phone comes back on? How long will my radios be down? I don't have wifi access at work so I want to make sure I won't be down for too long if i decide to do this here.

Ok... Back to questions.... After searching/prowling threads in here, I found out that based on the baseband number, my radios match the MR2.75. Will I need to dl the GB2.1 to run GB roms or will the radios I have suffice? I'm currently thinking about using a liquid rom.

The only radio that doesn't work with the ROMs currently available is the MR1 (which no one who's rooted is running-at least I hope not )

The MR2.75 will work on any ROM out. If you want to update to the newer radios you can. If not, that's fine too. It's your choice. Another perk of being rooted :)

Here is the best part: You can switch between any of the MR2 + radios and not have to worry about losing connection. Each radio will act differently with your phone (to an extent) so you can see which you prefer most. Personally I prefer to just stick with the latest radio build, tho.

Enjoy the custom rom scene!

The only issue I have is I lose 3g occasionally. It's usually only on the way home from work so that's not really even that big of a deal for me.

The radio differences you might see are handoff times when you switch networks are lowered. I ususally stick with the most recent radios as well, never know when there may have been a fix that is for that 1 in a 100 times you do something. I have been seeing stronger and more consistant 3G where before I had no signal.

I am not sure what the GB2.1 radios are. I would suggest the newest ones from the leak last week they are 726 and 802 I believe

Hmmmm... I thought I read somewhere I could flash radios before a rom. Maybe I was mistaken, which is very possible. What about. Kernals? Are those required or just optional for more performance? Or are they built into the roms?

You should flash the radio before the rom but have the rom on your sd before flashing the radio. There is a stock kernel in the rom, when you read thru the thread for your rom you may see people using other kernels for one reason or another. I would suggest you focus on finding a rom you like before searching for a kernel.

Link to download radio here http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/399301-new-8-19-gb-ruu.html#post3100799 when you check the MD5 if you are doing it on your phone compare to post 4, everyone but worm got that MD5

tried to flash these radios and in hboot it said that nothing was found in the file. i'm not sure whats going on. the PG05IMG.zip file was placed on my sd card as it was supposed to be, powered up in hboot, it did its thing and said there was no img found. the MD5 matched via AFV what was in the listed post.

edit: i'm ******ed and didnt rename the "combined" one to just PG...

The img has to be on the root of the SD, make sure it is not in any folder then boot into hboot it should be seen by hboot then

It was on the root of the sdcard. I just forgot to take the combined off of the file name before I flashed. I have now deleted the file and am ready to flash a rom!
