Root Flashing Roms

When I flash a rom, is there a difference between the first rom of cm7 I used or the the update zip files, just wondering. I have the old rom ( I believe its from 1-03) that when I first flashed, from what I remember, it took awhile to flash. With the update files, a couple seconds and they are done. Where I save them on my pc, the files are about the same size, 95 to 98 thousand. Also, when I restore a nandroid backup, I dont have to do a full wipe, right?? Thanks for your feedback..

Roms tend to have different flashing times weirdly enough. Booting takes longer on first boot when you wipe dalvik cache. I don't think it really matters though.

And correct. You don't have to wipe for a nandroid backup, since it overwrites everything anyways when restored.

I have the first CM7 when I first flashed it. Then I have quite a few of the update files as they were released. Do the update files contain the general rom files plus any updates then?? Or do I have to use the first rom file for that rom, then flash the updates??

Each update is it's own rom. If your coming from a previous version you can just wipe cache and dalvik cache and flash the update. If you were coming from a different rom all together you would have to do a full wipe. But you don't have to be on a cm7 rom to flash any of the newer builds since it contains everything previously as well as all the new stuff.
