Root Flashing to Leedroid 3.2.1

Hi everyone,

Have modified a few phones before, but havnt really done much with my desire hd. I am now wanting to flash it to LeeDroid. I am fairly confident when it comes to these things but just want some advice first.

I am running Android 2.3.3 and software version 2.36.405.8 on a non branded handset.

I just want some help with exactly what i require to flash the rom and radio. I have had a look in the LeeDroid topic over on XDA Developers but there are links left right and centre to download.

I understand i need to downgrade to be able to flash my phone. I have had a bit of a read through the guide to flashing on here.

Hope you can help.

Sorry for the noobish question.

Ben

Hi Ben - welcome to the forums.

Guess you mean you've looked at this http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/354749-how-root-install-custom-rom-desire-hd.html

That is a pretty comprehensive list of links on how to and everything - it explains what you need. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask!! :)

Don't appologise... that's what the forum's for!!

Ha Thanks man.

In the topic for the Leedroid which is the exact rom i need, there seem to be several links ?
[ROM]LeeDrOiD HD V3.2.1 GB [KERNEL]V3.1.6 >EPIC!< 21st June | HTC GB | OTA | CRT TV - xda-developers

Thanks
Ben

The one called LeeDrOiD HD V3.2.1 (FTP) is the link you're looking for, that's the actual ROM. A lot of the other links are optional extras.

It's entirely optional, but d/l the Optional Ext 4 patch too. Place both the zip files on your SD Card and once you've downgraded, rooted and in clockwork, install the EXT4 patch from zip, then do the same with the Leedroid Zip file.

No worries Ben. In the thread I linked (which is on Android Forums), El P has put together a complete set of links to all the how to's that people use... put it all in one place, so we could link to one place (rather than links to all of the different placeas)... it should answer a lot of questions!

If you have experience of rooting already (even if not on the DHD), then you are one step closer anyway. Only rooted a couple of months ago myself, so do not profess to have all the knowledge, but have helped a few people with it on here (even if it's been more for moral support/guidance than anything else)!

All I can say is read, read and read again before going for it... better to understand the steps involved before going for it... although not a difficult process, it's better to be sure than have an expensive paperweight!! :)

EDIT - should have read your post properly before replying and have seen that El P's got in there with the answer!!

Indeed, this is very important. I must've read through the entire process at least 4 times before I went for it. Even then, I was still as nervous as hell.

Only 4 times?!?! Must have read and re-read at least 10 times myself! Think the OCD kicked in though!!

It took me AGES to build up the courrage to go for it!! So glad I got it done though... would have hated to be stuck (like some) on unrootable firmware!!

Whats the best program for backing whole phone up, current rom and sd card?

Thanks

Are you currently rooted? If so - use ClockWorkMod (available from ROM Manager) to back up current ROM (with all settings) phone numbers should be ok (sync to Gmail).

Flashing ROM's doesn't affect the SD card, so that should be fine. Text messages - you can d/l apps from the market to do that!

No not currently rooted. Compleltly standard phone at moment really. As long as i have my contacts ill be happy. Any other way other than syncing to google mail?

Thats ok then, i have a lot of pictures on there i dont want to lose. Not fussed about sms, nothing that doesnt get deleted anyways.

All the MD5 Checksum does is check the integrity of the file you've downloaded to make sure it's not corrupt in any way. Download this to check the file (instructions are included).

You don't technically need to do the radio, but it is recommended. I didn't bother and I've no issues.

Contacts should be backed up via your gmail account. Do you see them in the contacts section of the gmail account when you check it online?

The SD Card also remains untouched.

Smooth. Did you export to a vcf/csv file?

If so, you can import them to google so they're always there if you're flitting between ROMs.

Yeh done it with the vcf file. Worked a treat!

All switched over to leedroid now with sense 3.0 and recommended radio.

Whats everyone using to clock the cpu a little? As a lot of pictures show it on leedroid but i cant make out what people are using?

Thought I read somewhere on the XDA leedroid thread, that it's recommended to just uninstall setcpu and leave it up to the default governor to control the CPU, which results in better performance/battery life.

Also what's the difference between smoothass and smartass? I'm guessing they're similar, but with smoothass being slightly toward the performance end of the scale, while smartass being on the battery life end?

From the little I've looked into it, that seems to be the case. I think Smoothass is a little quicker in reacting to load and increasing speed when it's needed.
