Root Flashing with out rom manager

Just out of curiosity, are there other ways to flash a rom without using rom manager? how would you flash CWM?

there is a update.zip to flash recovery.....i got it from assonance thread on xda....u have dig it out tho...thats the only way u can do it...u need recovery too flash any rom
