Florida governor signs welfare drug-screen measure

That is just too funny.

Let me sum it up.

Can you test for alcohol use or tobacco use? No? But they are the number 1 and 2 drugs abused by the poor and probably have the largest money spent on them. I bet if you take all the money used on illegal drugs, it would be 1/1000 of the money spent on alcohol, tobacco, and legal drugs.

But really, let us look at who get welfare out of this.

$42 dollars per drug test. Quick google gives up about 1.7 million people in Florida getting some kind of government assistance.

Which means the drug testing company's now get to have a 72 million dollar welfare check. Congrats conservatives. You managed to get corporate welfare passed into law, while doing nothing to help get those off welfare.

I swear to god, why do we give multi billion dollar companies hand out while pretending to be moral police, when we could take the 72 million dollars and actually make it work to get people off welfare.
Payed for directly from those applying for benefits.

Payed for directly from those applying for benefits.
But it is not, it is paid by the tax payer. Tax payer money is way better then poor peoples money.

The aid recipients would be responsible for the cost of the screening, which they would recoup in their assistance if they qualify.

Which means that they can get drunk and smoke 10 packs of cigerattes before the test, take the test, get welfare and spend it all in liquor store across the street.

But let us look at what is really the issue here.

Scott's past association with a company he co-founded that operates walk-in urgent care clinics in Florida and counts drug screening among the services it provides. In April, Scott, who had transferred his ownership interest in Solantic Corp. to a trust in his wife's
name

Who gets the corporate welfare check out of this, yep, his wife gets the corporate welfare!!!

I swear, I have no idea why people here would not support poor families trying to survive and working soo hard to make their life's better. But in the same breathe will give millions of dollars to multi billion dollar companies for doing nothing.

Is it because they are rich, they deserve a hand out? I just dont understand.

The other thing I would love to know, is how a person living from paycheck to pay check with 600 dollars is going to save up 42 dollars to get a drug test, so the rich can get richer?

That's what always worries me about these public private ventures
Its always the friends of the politicians who benefit ...

They have to pay?
According to the article and I qoute.

The aid recipients would be responsible for the cost of the screening, which they would recoup in their assistance if they qualify.

Which means you give the social worker a benefit ( lets say 100 dollars of tax payers money) to forcing drug tests, so they will happen randomly.

Now the person that can not afford food for their family has to cough up 42 bucks, so that way a corporations can get a hand out from the government.

Let me sum this up. Woman has 1 child, loose her job, and is the point of getting kick out of her house. She just needs to get along until the economy picks back up. But she now has to pay this 42 dollars to get a drug test, even though she has never done drugs in her life. Her crime is only being single and getting laid off. She has to cough up 42 bucks to give to the rich. She has to choose to not feed herself, her child, or pay the rent, so she can give 42 dollars to the rich.

It is basically another tax break for the rich hidden in the ideals of the moral police.

If they get denied, they pay for it. If they get benefits, it is still them paying for it, out of their benefits, that are not increased to cover it. They ARE paying for it, directly.

Let me be 100% clear here, I firmly believe that we should try to get people off welfare. Welfare should only be given if they are willing to take classes at the local school, education programs, and substance abuse courses. Are goal of welfare should not be a hand out, but a hand up. Yes they do drugs which means that we need to get substance abuse classes. Yes they are uneducated, so we should educate them. Yes, they are untrained, so we should start to train them.

I would quit my job. Piss in a cup and ask for welfare.
You got kids? If you dont, you wouldnt qualify. And you really would like to set that example for them? I mean, you are so set against it now, but if you cant make ends meet, you would in a heartbeat.

you really think most of those families are trying to better themselves? Put that cool aid down. They are getting a free ride and they will stop anyone who tries to stop it. Glad you believe what they tell you.

a person who gets everything provided for him or her. You really think thy are going to give it up so they can work a job? Why work for something when you can get it for free.

Well we are all paying for it, can we agree with that?
No, those applying for assistance are. If they get denied it comes out of their pockets, and they get sent on their way. If they get assistance, they dont get an extra $42. We might be paying for their assistance, but not the test. And even if they fail the test, they can still receive assistance. They just have to designate a 3rd party to receive the assistance "on the childs behalf". I asked in the OP, but how many drug addicts you think will "designate" their dealer? Now, I am not implyiong that all recpients are drug addicts, but some are. Some will fail the test, and still receive benefits. What is the point of this law? It wont get them off the assistance, it wont get them off the drugs. Wait, you already answered. It IS a handout to the rich. Payed for DIRECTLY from the poorest of the poor.

Considering it eventually runs out, and many get off of it before it runs out. Yeah, I really do think most (not all) are trying to better themselves. Your the one on the "cool aid", claiming they are all drug addicts. And all of them would rather live like that, instead of making a better life for them and their family. You really think $600 buys EVERYTHING for a family?

And more proof of your "cool aid" drinking is the fact you think this is going to do ANYTHING other than line the pockets of the rich.

no matter what you do the rich gets richer. You buy groceries the rich person that owns the store gets richer off our dime. Same goes for cars we buy. The fast food we buy. The gasoline that powers your car the rich person who owns it gets richer. So beings you hate the rich get richer I guess you live off the land. Hunt your own food. Ride a horse or walk where ever you go. Make your own clothes. Weave the fabric you need to make the clothes.

No matter what they or you do. Some rich person will make money off it.

Welcome to the real America and all hail the mighty dollar.

LOL, you need a job to collect workfare.

And, FYI, an 80% tax rate would presumably apply only to the top level of income, say over $500,000. So you would not see any tax increase at all, and therefore have no need to piss in a cup.

Unless of course it was a symbolic act of protest in support of those unfortunate people who in theory would have to cough up some of their unearned income in taxes.

They can simply say no to the drug test as no one is forcing them to partake in the drug testing. So no ones forth admendment rights are violated.
This is the same argument people made against the scanners in airports, yet the controversy still stands. Just saying.

How you know I am not rich? There you go again assuming I am something and you dont even know me. That's your problem you see something you dont like and rush blindly in to battle. Me and my millions laugh at you.

Sometimes sarcasm is just sarcasm.

So lets make it where the rich get richer by the force of the government taking money directly from the poorest of the poor, for no other reason than to do it. As I said, this law does nothing to get people off of welfare. It does nothing to get people off of drugs. The ONLY thing it does, is take money DIRECTLY from the poor, and HANDS it to the rich.

I think you are taking it too far here. This isn't a case of the government doing this for no reason. Sure, someone is profiting, but the goal here is to keep taxpayers from funding drug habits.

It's worth noting that requiring wellfare applicants to pay a $42 fee for a drug test isn't going to make anyone rich overnight. Those that know they will pass the drug screening have nothing to worry about. They are given that $42 right back once the test comes back negative.

just remember who founded this nation. The rich society. So you are shocked that over 200 years later the rich are still getting rich off the poor. Like they say takes money to make money.

So how is it going to keep the taxpayers from funding drug habits? Even IF they fail, they can still receive the benefits. And the ones that dont fail STILL lose out on the $42. Their benefits are NOT going to be increased by the $42. Of course $42 isnt going to make anybody rich over night. Multiply that $42 by 1.5 million people, every year, and a few people stand to make a lot of money from it.
