Help Fluctuating Signal or Defective Units?

I have been doing a lot of research about this becasue I keep on having this issue and there seems not to be a clear explanation. My Evo V keeps on having that Radio Interference/Low Resources error when sending texts. It's really annoying, it doesn't happen all the time but just enough for me to think the phone is not dependable. So far people seem to think it's bad software (radio) some seem to think it's due to Virgin Mobile's signal fluctuation, other people have returned their phones because they believed it was defective, gotten new units and have not had any problems. Other people have had Virgin Mobile techs re-provision their services and have also had their issues fixed.
I have contacted VM several times and all their fixes havent worked, updating profile and prl doesn't fix it either.
So here are my questions for anyone willing to help all of us being affected by this error...
Anyone with a non-Sprint branded phone having this issue?
Anyone who exchanged their phone because of this issue had their problem go away with a new one?
And lastly anyone with a Sprint branded phone who had this issue, has done some fix and has had this problem disappear.
Thanks everyone, your help is appreciated.

I got a Sprint branded phone from Best Buy. I had this problem for almost 2 weeks, but haven't had any problems in the last few days. I'm hoping it was just a temporary network issue and these problems don't come back. Virgin and Boost were both moving to new networks and I'm hoping it was just some technical problems on their end.

Everytime I had issues I would just go and update the Profile/PRL and it would temporarily fix the problem. But I haven't had to do that in the last 5 or 6 days.

Well it's official I have since returned an evo v phone because of the weak signal and fluctuations..so I have resorted to buying an interim phone till VM irons out all the quirks and software problems....I figure in a couple of months or until they come up with a software update then and only then will I even think about purchasing another evo v.........:dancing2::congrats::adore:

Which one the one in the 3d section or the port in this section and does text and mms work

The Sprint Evo 3D is based on Android 2.3, Gingerbread. The Virgin Mobile Evo V 4G is based on Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. You cannot use ROMs developed for the Evo 3D. You can use ROMs that someone adapted from those 3D versions but updated them for ICS. You find them here in the root subforum.

this continues to happen for me even on the ZR3DX ROM. however, i live in an area with a super low signal, so it can happen in that case. i never really have this issue in a better signal area. using a custom SMS app also appears to help (i use GO SMS), so try that as well.

No they are the same phone. Most Evo 3d roms will work only without mms.

I certainly hope this is not a major issue. If they or ANYONE comes up with a good solution i would very much like to know because i was planning on getting this phone THIS weekend. Looks like I'll wait a week or 2 now just to see what happens

I really hope this is just isolated to a few handsets.

I've gotten the impression that this mostly is occurring in specific locations, and with a few defective phones outside those areas. It seems like most of us are not having issues with the Evo V.

I'm in Chicago and my bars fluctuate randomly throughout the day. I travel from the north to ohare for work almost everyday and get it because I'm traveling. But when I'm at work and have full bars and try to make a call it just hangs. I should not have to reset my phone just to make a call or to send and receive texts. I stood next to my assistant manager and told her to call me and it went straight to voice mail. I looked at my phone while she was doing so and noticed my signal IMMEDIATELY drops as soon as she starts calling. No phone should do that. I'm 3 days out of my 30 days with Radio Shack but I'm still gonna exchange it.

Unfortunately, that may not work even after an exchange. If you can't easily exchange it you can try reactivating your phone and also install Signal Notification app since the signal bars are wonky. Sometimes my signal bars jump all over the place even when my actual signal (dBm) is stable. See the link below.

I've seen signal fluxuate throughout the day, but nothing major. I've received no error messages, no missed calls due to low signal, no crashes, no random reboots, none of the issues that everyone else is complaining of.

Mine's a plum-colored Sprint-branded unit from BestBuy.

Not calling anyone a liar, but I'd think if it were a software issue, wouldn't we all be having the problem?

I think it's both software and network; as always some people get bad devices, so for only a few it's hardware related. On my triumph my signal been fluctuating all day since last night; so that's what makes me think part of the problem is part network. And when Sprint users flashed our ICS stock ROM, they had fluctuation issues even on their phones, only when they was using the Evo V 4G stock ROM; that what makes me think it's also part software related. And every set of phones that release always has a bad one in the batch so that's why some people notice the problem is less noticeable after swapping Evo Vs

That's exactly what I was thinking...yet no one seems to know for sure. I exchanged my original (sprint branded) evo v, received another sprint branded evo v and had the exact same problem. Returned that one for a refund and then went to a different store and bought a virgin branded evo-v (without the sprint logo, virgin mobile on the back), I activated this one with a brand new account & phone number and still the same problem. 3 defective units from 3 different stores in 3 different cities? Very well could be, during all the time I spent on the phone with Virgin Mobile they never gave me a straight answer.
I bought an HTC One V this weekend, and also noticed the signal fluctuatation with it, yet no errors, missed texts or calls.
My opinion is that this has something to do with the network signal in your area, paired up with the phone not being able to recover from low signal, like someone else said in these forums.
There might or might not be a fix for this, Virgin Mobile has a history on taking their time to roll out fixes or updates if any. I loved that phone, but not knowing if I'm missing an important call or text was way too much for me to wait around for a fix.

People in the Sprint 3D forum who flashed the leaked (at the time) VM ROM which was modified for Sprint service also had issues with the fluctuating signal strength. This strongly hints that it's a software issue.
