Root flytouch III - cannot update firmware, connect to market and other issues

Lurker
Hi I am hoping someone here can help me

i have a flytouch III purchased from aliexpress (seller had good ratings from other buyers for the same item). The device info states the following:
model dk1031
android 2.2 v4.1
kernel 2.6.32.9
kidult ubuntu #14
Build number: FRF85B

I have the following problems with this:

1: Android market will not work. I am connecting via wifi (my internet is definately working as i can browse websites and download from slideme market)
I can sometimes connect to the market and browse items. I have registered with my google email and password - these are correct and work on my other android device (phone). I have been able to view my purchases and apps (downloaded/purchased on other devices) on the market on this device. I can search for items and choose to download, however they never download, the status will say downloading and nothing ever happens
at other times I will get the error:
The application Market (process.com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly please try again. This is also displaying when I start the device
Many of the applications I have tried to install by downloading them from the one site that the download works on (slideme) will either download but give an error on install or download and install then give the same market error and/or a similar error related to the application itself when I try and run the app
Some apps do run, angry birds (installed off tf card - copy of the AB on my phone) is working, kindle is working (also off tf card) and some other apps from slideme are working. But most are not
I have also tried emptying the application cache(s) and reset the device to factory settings - several times. No change

2: firmware update.I have tried several firmware updates, copying the files onto the tf card and rebooting the device, nothing happens, it just boots into the current os. I have tried this pressing various buttons at start-up including the on button + minus as recommended by the supplier, have also tried copying the files to the actual device (though not sure where to put them - put in root of android dir), and it doesnt matter what I try it just boots into existing os, The TF card can be read when I go into mypad. card has been formatted etc, have tried several cards. have tried letting the device go completely flat then putting in tf card and starting to ensure i am actually restarting (see problem 3)

3: I am not sure exactly how to restart the thing - stupid as that sounds. Pressing the power button for a long time turns off the screen and when I press it again the android logo comes up and it looks like it is starting from powered off, but it seems to turn off very fast, and there is no confirmation message (do i want to turn off etc).

4: GPS - it came with an external gps which I connected and then used google maps, and it came up as gps and location detected, but had me as being somewhere in china (and I am in new zealand), i played with all the settings in case it was the format of the coordinates and no change i was still in china!

I guess the first thing I am hoping someone can help me with is the firmware as I suspec that is the cause of most my problems - any hints on how to make the thing run the firmware? or any thing I can do to further diagnose why it wont?

What it will do is:

Connect to the internet via wifi
connect to kindle and doanload ebooks etc
the apps it runs without crashing it seems to run normally but a large proportion of downloaded apps it just will not install or run, with only the standard stopped unexpectedly error message - which does not help me work out what is wrong.
it is also apparently meant to support 3g but there are no 3G options in the place they were on the other android device I had which was also 2.2 and supported 3G.

I have spent ages trying to work out what is wrong and tried a number of roms to no avail.

The most recent set are called deposit files on the link on here I got them from.

Is there a way to force it to boot from the tf card or something I can do to get some clue as to why it is ignoring the tf card when i restart it? thje total lack of useful error messages or other clues is getting frustrating

thanks in advance

kim

Can I suggest you try the search function in these forums. Especially for GPS and Market problems. There are plenty of threads detailing how to solve these.
3g support only happens if a 3G usb dongle is connected then it doesn't work with all 3G dongles.

Here are the links I found using the search function of the forum
http://androidforums.com/gome-flytouch-3/342539-how-access-paid-apps.html
http://androidforums.com/gome-flytouch-3/347113-gps-not-working-showing-china-only.html

thanks but I have already searched this and other forums extensively before posting this thread. the main problem is that most solutions suggest I update the firmware, which I am unable to do - have followed instruictions to the letter and the tablet just starts and boots into existing os.

So the suggestions to use things like Tims firmware are not ones that I can follow as I cant get any firmware to install.

I am hoping someone will have a suggestion tht will help me find out what the combination of keys might be that I need to press when I restart the thing, to get it to boot to the TF card with firmware on it, rather than into the android os.

I have managed to install a system info app today that i found on another forum so can give a reasonable amount of info about the OS and environment etc of this tablet if that will be of any use?

Also my market is now refusing to work at all, it just crashes on restart, and instantly if i tap the market app, and also when i run pretty much any other app. and at random. So my android market is completely fried - which means the advice on one of those threads about finding an all market apps wont work. it also refers to getting it to find your user id, which my tablet is already able to 'see' as when market did work it I could see my purchased apps etc that i have brought under the same account on other devices.
the only place I am able to download apps from and install on the tablet is slideme web page (the slideme app wont work). or by copying an apk file that I can download to my pc onto the tf card then executing that

I really think that my problem wont be solved without me being able to update the firmware on this thing.

When updating the firmware, you should have just the firmware files and nothing else on the tf card. Insert card, then switch on. If it doesn't re-flash then you may not have the correct type of Flytouch.
To give you an idea my details are and it flashes fine I am using one of Tim's roms.
Model Number - Disco10
android version - 2.2-20110529
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9 zjd@dtlinuxserver #29
Build Number FRF85B

maybe I need a different firmware then as all that was on the tf card was the two files. question is, apart from trying every firmware update on the planet, how do I figure out what this one needs?

I will attach some screenshots from the system info in the hope someone can help me find the right firmware

The name Flytouch is generic. There are many different builds, some with very different hardware and each with their own firmware. Some firmwares work on different models, although usually with some functionality loss. Tims firmware is for Disco and Disco10 models only

You have a DK1031 model. Tims firmware won't work on it. You cannot update the firmware by placing the update files on a blank tf card. See model number: DK1031 - SlateDroid.com

And perhaps also Android Tab10 - SlateDroid.com

There a lot of reading to do but some very useful info there.
