Help Folder issue with JB update.

Hadly

Newbie
The jelly bean update finally came through for my Rogers S3 last night. Everything seems fantastic minus one small, but annoying, problem.

Each time I open up a folder, it freezes. The folder opens fine, but when I try to close the folder, it freezes and then I get an error saying "Unfortunately Touch Wiz Home has stopped". And all my screens reset and everything is good again.

I've tried making a new folder just to see if that would fix things but it didn't. Any folder new or old makes it freeze.

Any suggestions?

Same problem here. I read elsewhere that it was related ti the 3 animation scale settings in Developer Options (I had turned them all off), and that by disabling Dev Options the issue would be resolved. That didn't work for me. I haven't reset the phone yet, though. I'm still looking at other options, will post anything else I find.

Edit: Rebooting didn't help.

Hey guys, first time poster. I'm having an issue with my DROID folders, like games, media ext. that I have made on my screen. I made them on ICS so I figured I'd try make a new one and see if that might be it. Nope same problem.

I open the folder.
Apps show up in the new little Window.
I press back or home to exit folder
This happens

Tried reboot. No dice, tried making new folder, same thing. Any thoughts?

Which Samsung phone do you have? and I can move this to your specific phone forum where you are most likely to receive the correct answer.

Having the same issue with mine.

Also, related, I'm not getting any voice responses with Google Now.

I'm willing to reset the phone if that's the issue (although that would suck).

On a related note, Google Now has no sound for me. It detects my voice fine but I get no voice feedback and no sound indicating my search has started. Not sure if they're related at all.

It is usually recommended after any OS update, to perform a factory reset. It's even better to do one before and after an update. Important system files can become tangled and start causing problems at any time. This may only be the start of issues you run into.

However, you may find a solution that doesn't require doing a factory reset, but I'd recommend to do one anyway.

Factory reset did fix the folder issue. But Google Now still isnt giving me any voice feedback.

I just found out that all you need to do is clear the Touchwiz cache. It resets your pages and icons, though. The other thread here also suggested that resetting applications cache might work, but I did Touchwiz instead, then firce-stopped it, and soft reset the phone.

Thanks, everyone!

By the way, re-enabling dev options and adjusting animation scale options screws it up again. Oh well, slow it is...

Hard reset earlier today, it was working fine until about 5 seconds ago. Now it's giving me the same error. I'm out of ideas.

Do you have Developer Options off? Did you clear tw home data *and* force stop it (then go to home screen) before restarting phone? That worked for me.

I didn't do the cache clear. Should I do that? Will I have to hard reset AGAIN?

As an aside, weird enough, I restarted my phone at it brought back my background that I had before the hard reset, which I thought was strange.

Sorry, I meant TouchWiz Home "Clear Data" (Clear Cache doesn't seem to be available.) Then force-stop, then go back to home, then reset.

That will reset all of your home pages and icons to defaults.

I've done it a couple times now without any issues, and - yes -my wallpaper always survives too. Odd.

I did not factory-reset the phone, but I did turn it off/on again.

Excellent. That seems to have worked for now.

I'm loving the update, but there seems to be quite a few bug so far.

Touchwiz home clear cache did not work. It only worked for about ten minutes or so. Then right back at it. A Hard reset fixed things up.

Same problem here. I tried to do the hard reset but I can't... all the steps to do the hard reset don't work. the phone just boots up buisness as usual. I called samsung support and they said that something must have gone wrong during the update and now I have to send away my phone for repairs. For the time being I'm using Go launcher as a work around. seems to be fine now. But I will be taking my phone back to the store to have it looked at.

"Clear data", not cache. It's been working for me all day. After re-creating folders and filling them with apps, there hasn't been a single incident.

You did disable Developer Options, right? Otherwise you're back to square one.

Clear data is what I did. So...
I've cleared data
Cleared cache
Hard reset
Deleted folders
Re created folders

Clearing cache and hard reset seem to work for a little. Then it does it again.
So that means the problems ok and non existent until an event happens that trips it.
