Root Foolproof Guide for restoring a bricked Shine Plus

I highly suggest the application "Juice Defender Ultimate". It costs about $5.99 but it's really worth it imo.

What this app does is disconnecting mobile data during standby, synchronize your contacts/emails/etc every X minutes, disconnects your data during your sleep, etc.

I have installed it on my other phone (LG Optimus Black) and my battery can last about two more days.

Some people in this forum deserve kisses, "seanre453" and "karendar" :o:p.

At this point the last option was my choice as the CS at the repair shop seemed to be the most helpful and understanding. I thought I have nothing left to lose and followed the procedure in this thread which I now realize should have been my first step!!

So many thanks to "seanre453" and "karendar" and anyone else deserving. Now how do I make her battery last for more than a day+?

Glad we could help. ;) Seanre453 sadly bricked his phone while helping us find this technique...

As for the battery lasting more than a day, I honestly suggest the custom ROM work done by jiilik and myself, as his solution and my solution bundled does really help stabilize the phone as much as it can... Juice Defender as mentionned above is also a decent solution, although I don't like it because it deactivates your connections and reactivates them when needed which doesn't suit my needs.

Good luck with the rest!

p.s.: In settings, about phone, can you verify which phone version you have? It should state v20x somewhere, I just want to know if a new bug fix version was released...

I'm afraid this hasn't helped my phone. My phone loops on the android boot-up screen. It shimmers over the android logo, then freezes for about 2 or 3 seconds, then the screen flashes blank, and it goes back to the shimmering logo. I followed all the steps, got it into emergency mode and everything, and:

16:36:16 : LoadCDMAPhoneData() Error

I've tried every combination of type and phonemode. Advice?

This time I can't see anything wrong in the log, still no results,

If the phone is not detecting put it in emergency mode.
To do so you need to power off phone, hold key "1", insert usb cable and press power button after you will see "emergency mode" on yellow screen.
But before USB drivers need to be installed, you can take them from :
lg.com/ca_en/support/mc-support/mobile-phone-support.jsp
Choose your phone model and press "WINDOWS USB Driver" ...
DO NOT PRESS 1 AND POWER AT THE SAME TIME! now my phone doesn't even turn on a-tall

MEID is IMEI code, try using that to try and recover... Otherwise, the procedure listed here will recover your phone, but you will lose your data.

If you were in the Montreal area, I could help you out.

It seems like LG has blocked access to the V20A_00.kdz file. The above link now gives a "Forbidden, Your client is not allowed to access the requested object. " error. The V10d_00.kdz link still works though.

Does anyone have a local copy of the V20A_00.kdz file that they can share?

http://karendar.co.cc/V20A_00.kdz -- STILL UPLOADING, GIVE IT MAYBE 15 MINUTES

Also, I tried the direct link I supplied and it works. I can actually download it. But this is a backup just in case...

Also, just so you guys know... I did some digging and I think v20b is in the works.

Thanks Karendar, I'm not sure why the link still works for you and doesn't for me even from different locations with different browsers but anyway, your personal link worked and I now have a working phone again.

Here are the details of my experience in getting things working again in case anyone else is going through similar issues.

I've been on V20a for a few months now living with the black screen/wifi issue, which I've been able to live with since I gave in and now have wifi set to turn off whenever the screen is off. Although, even with that setting I still get the occasional random black screen about once a month.

Last week I looked at my phone and saw that it was stuck on the android logo (with no cycling of the brightness of the letters) so I did a battery pull and restarted. It took long to load and when it did there were a lot of force close errors from some system components that kept popping up every few seconds. I tried to restart again and the phone just kept looping at the android logo (about 14 cycles of the letter-brightness changes followed by a brief pause and then repeating). This then happened every time I tried to start it.

That's when I tried the steps in this thread to try and get the phone working again.

  • Removed SIM and SD card
  • Got the download link based on the IMEI of my phone, which I didn't notice was the V10d version and tried to follow the steps, which failed and got my phone stuck in "Emergency Mode"
  • When I got the v20d version with the phone in yellow "Emergency Mode" I tried again with all combinations of 3GQCT/CDMA and DIAG/EMERGENCY and they all said "Phone not found", even after unplugging and replugging usb, pulling the battery etc.
  • Tried the technique of pulling/replacing battery after a few seconds, then holding 1 while plugging in usb and that seemed to work to allow the phone to be found and the update to complete.
  • After the update, tried to restart phone and had the same looping at android logo problem
  • Tried the factory reset procedure of turning off the phone, then while holding the volume-down and home buttons also holding the power button to turn on the phone. This seemed to do the trick and the phone was factory reset and back to normal
  • Put back in my SIM and SD card then restored apps from my Titanium Backup and now I'm back in business.
In hindsight, I am wondering if the flashing was even necessary, I don't know why I didn't think of trying it first but maybe my problem would have been solved if I just went straight to trying the factory reset. Oh well, hopefully my experience will save someone else some time and aggravation.

Glad you got your phone running again. Having to service your phone is a total pain. Especially if you're not a Telus customer!

Factory reset did seem to be the issue here, your phone might have suffered some corruption somewhere and the phone wouldn't react... Usually flashing your phone with the file keeps the data folder intact. Factory reset formats the data partition. So I think doing that whole work took you more time, but at least you're starting off with a fresh base.

As for the black screen issues, with the post I wrote above, we might see v20b soon enough. Just hope they don't break anything else while fixing these issues.

Hi everyone, I'm new to Android smartphones and would like to learn more on how to "hack" and upgrade my LG Shine Plus from V10 to V20. I was trying to do an upgrade/update yesterday and the updater gave me an error and closed!! Now, my phone is stuck at the Telus Logo! I've tried doing the update a couple more times and the phone does go to emergency mode properly.

This is what I have done to the phone.
1) Downloaded and installed the KDZ Update
2) Ran program and update to V20A, but stalled?
3) During the update process, the application hangs
4) The application prompts to either close or find a solution on the web
5) Clicking either option will force the program close

What are my steps or what can I do to fix this issue?
My phone is detected and works with the update.
I don't know why the program is hanging and closing on me.
If someone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time. Saltywetguy8.

So let me get this straight:

Your phone is in emergency mode
It detects in the application KDZ_FW_Update
But crashes during mid-flash

If all these answers are correct, try this:

Pull out your battery, wait 30 seconds
Put battery back in, Hold down Vol down + Home + Power (THIS WILL WIPE ALL DATA)
Once that's done, phone will restart. If it's still stuck on the LG logo, Bring your phone back to emergency mode, try running KDZ_FW_UPDATE again, select v20a_00.kdz as file. Select 3GCT and EMERGENCY and then click flash.

Let the app run, might take up to 10 minutes depending.

If the app still crashes, try uninstalling all LG drivers and apps, reinstalling all LG drivers and apps and trying again.

LAST RESORT: try from another computer

Good luck!

tried method above still stuck on emergency mode update... what can i do ?

From what I can see, it seems to start copying and then craps out. Can you try doing it from another USB port/cable/computer? If that still doesn't work, try doing factory reset (Vol down + Home + Power) and then attempt doing the procedure again... That's all I can think of.

i did that and still goes right back to emergency mode.. i think its a dud now :(

Which area are you in? Anywhere near Montreal by any chance? I'd be willing to have a go at it for you if you want...

Otherwise, servicing the phone would be your best bet I'm afraid. :(

This is a kdz, is there a way to get this in zip or the zips are only custom roms? I found the 2.1 zip version but I am looking for the 2.3 zip stock rom.

Noone's made a zip file of the stock ROM... You're better off updating using the KDZ file anyway, it'll reset your system partition and update your baseband at the same time... I suggest flashing the KDZ and then do a factory reset. Once that's done, you turn off the phone, hold vol down + home + power to do the factory reset (Clears all data from phone), you'll then have a fully stock ROM.
