For ALL Those waiting for the OTA...

My understanding is the RUU does not need root. Am I mistaken?

No you are not mistaken! Unfortunately, a lot of people as well intentioned as they are trying to help the forum are not really making things clear for everyone!

The RUU method actually has nothing whatsoever to do with ROOT. It seems that most of us here on the forum have incorrectly tied Rooting and RUU together as a package deal.

If you have downloaded the official RUU, you literally install it right from your PC onto a stock phone by clicking on the .exe!

I am new to android... i rooted my incredible when i first got it for the wifi tether. I didnt install any customs roms etc, didnt feel the need.

Since then i read that i had to unroot in order to receive the new OTA 2.2. I did exactly this. However i planned on rooting after 2.2 again.

So would using this method be a better choice for me since its "official" and if i read this right ill be rooted as well?

I dont use the phone for games... i mainly care about performance and battery life. So the removed bloatware is a huge plus. (somehow i got 24hrs out of the stock battery the other day w 40% left before i plugged it in)

so im trying to run unrevoked3 and when phone goes to reboot unrevoked says "communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. try again."

I am running windows 7 64bit. could someone please help resolve this issue?

I also uninstalled htc sync and htc driver installer
