Hey guys.

I thought i post this because when i upgraded to gingerbread i didn't knew how to root it and SOC (SuperOneClick) didn't work for me.

So who upgraded to gingerbread and wants to root it follow these instructions :

1. Download a file called upd_1.zip from here .

2. Put this file to your main(root) directory of your SD card.

3. Turn off your phone and boot in recovery mode by holding Home button + Power button untill it shows you the recovery mode menu.

4. There you can't use the touch screen. So you have to use the Volume up/down keys to move up and down and home key to select. Select "Apply update from sdcard" and select your file that you downloaded upd_1.zip.

5. Wait for it to install (It took about a second for me to install it ). And then select "reboot your device" from the menu.

And there you go your device is rooted and you can see the superuser icon on the menu .

This worked perfectly for me. Hope this helps you gingerbread users.

Wooooooooo

This is what I have been waiting to find.

My Galaxy Mini GT-S5570 has refused to connect to Kies after it it did the gingerbread 2.3.4 update around September.

Tried everything to get it to connect, including, factory resets, formatting the SD, removing the SD, using the back of the computer USB ports instead of the front (As the GT has problems with low voltage tolerance on the front USB ports) to NO avail.

I rooted the phone with your advice and what do you know, it connects to KIES now. Simply wonderful. Many Thanks:D

What main benefits does rooting have?
Can we now flash a latter version of gingerbread or something else?

I am game, any suggestions for a new flavor of android?

Thanks folks

I have tried twice to root my lg optimus 2x using this method. The 1st attempt i followed the steps and found the file but I got a failed/abort error message. However; the superuser icon was installed so I thought maybe it rooted. It didnt so I repeated the steps but now when I go into recovery mode I cant find the zip file. I see apply update from sd card but cant find the file. What am I doing wrong?

So I wiped my phone and redownloaded, moved to sd card....... Was able to find the file this time but it didnt install correctly. Failed/abort error message.... I give up.

Hi! I have a new Galaxy s 4g TMob that replaces one of the same. Of course this one has Gingerbread. I've read the thread but I just want to be sure so I don't dork up my phone. I want root to get rid of bloatware and, maybe, put on a custom ROM later. I read your first post - is that still valid for my phone? Not that I don't trust you, understand. But my friend Murphy is always around...

Thanks!

The upd_1 is no longer available looks like. But however I did manage to find a copy of gingerbreak 1.2 on the internet and installed it on my att avail.

But scared to try. Can do the regular method listed in the avail section but too confusing. So maybe I'll try this instead. But does gingerbreak 1.2 work on android 2.3.4. And will this brick my phone or is it safe to try.

I apologize for being a newbie at this but, I was wondering if it would be possible to root my phone [LG Marquee LS855 w/ Android 2.3.4 (Boost Mobile)] so I could uninstall bloatware from boost (ID, Latitude, Places, Maps, possibly a few others..) and possibly to stop the auto-start of certain programs that no matter which app. I use I cannot get them to stop. Seems as if my phone is always using 300 or 350MB of my 512MB ram leaving me only 150MB, which when low causes my status/notification pull down bar at the top to disappear. I have heard that it is possible after rooting my phone I may not be able to use WiFi.. Is there any truth to that? Any answers would be very helpful. This is my first android phone I thank you for your help in advance.

Hey guys!

Phone Info:
Phone: LG G2X
Model #: LG-P999
Android Version: 2.3.4
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.9
Software Version: LGP999-V21y

New to this rooting so I need some help on what to do next.

First off, I have a ? about the root process (just want to make sure I did it correct although I have it working. I feel like I went another route than everybody else)
1. Unmounted sd card (told to do so, but don't know why)
2. enabbled usb debugging
3. downloaded superoneclick
4. rooted

Why did I have to unmount the sd card? Should I mount it back now that it's rooted?

So is there any suggestions on what to do next now that I am rooted?... Overclock? Roms? Getting rid of bloatware? etc...

I need to change my boring phone into something cool!! :-)

Thank You!

I downloaded the zip file - but what to do if the "recovery mode" does not start as you said it should? Should I try using Odin to install it?

Btw - If anyone has questions, problems about rooting fell free to post them here :)
