Root For those who need help disabling/removing apps (including 2.2) here is a list.

Great thread!!!

I have DInc running stock 2.2 OS

On this page:

Remove bloatware from HTC Droid Incredible 2.2 - Technology - Jonamerica.com

I found that if you just rename or move apk/odex files via remote shell it may leave some garbage in the widgets menu. On that page there is post by Mike (dated 09/29/2010 06:33 PM ) that says:
Hey I have figured out how to solve the widget fragments problem.
First, if you have already removed some widgets then place them back into /system. Using Root Explorer, move ONE widget (.apk and .odex) from the /app to /app.disabled then back all the way out to the home screen. SenseUI will update and when it's done you can go into the widget screen and see that the widget is completely gone. Do this for every widget that you want to remove but you HAVE to do it ONE at a time. I have confirmed this and have no fragments in my widget screen.
I understand the first step - move them from ./app to ./app.disabled

However, I don't understand the second step - move them back all the way to the home screen

What home screen is he talking about?

His instructions are a little confusing because it lacks punctuation, but you move the file, then "back out to the home screen" (the phone's main home screen) by using the Back button on the phone.

By doing this (move a file, go back, move a file, etc) it allows the widgets to update themselves properly.

Now I understand.

Have you tried this approach? Does it actually allow widgets to update themselves properly?

Yes, it does work. I actually used both routes. I moved a bunch of files using the remote shell method first. After I encountered the widget problem, I used the second method to move some other files.
