For those who swear MetroPCS's LTE network is not that great.

From my house and most of the local area here in NYC I'm getting about 1.3M down. While that may not be up to snuff for true 4G, it's still plenty fast for anything I need to do on the phone and approx. 10x faster than what I was getting before on 1x. There are a few places nearby where I've seen 5M, hopefully as Metro upgrades the network that will eventually be everywhere.

I'm from nyc too and get approximately the same speed. Today was turkey day, and sure enough a turkey came calling today. I received a text today from Metro stating I'm in the top 5% of data users this month and that I should use wifi to help avoid reduced speeds. Even though I'm paying top dollar for the unlimited plan, they are still looking to throttle me. This just might be the last straw. They have been trying to nickle and dime me ever since I signed up in March. There is no higher plan ($70) so they are doing this, which is illegal. It's time to fight back.

P.S... They give no figures of data use when I called, cause I know for a fact November was a light month in my data usage. No Hockey Games. Not that I keep track of such things since I'm unlimited anyway.

tethering?

Why don't you go down to the $55 unlimited plan if you need rhapsody you can use pandora

I've tried telling people that even the 70 plan gets throttled and will only get worse with the merge. Metro users are about to get a real eye opener and there will be many more jumping ship. No such thing as unlimited and that goes for anywhere.

Some have said you get throttled at 25GB some have said lower or higher, it says in the TOS if you use excessive service that impedes on others they have the right to restrict you or cancel your service

Download a data counter & see how much you've used

I can't imagine how someone could use that much data on a phone. Taking into account they have a job and a life. That's a lot of streaming.

He says he doesnt keep track of his data so you never know, I watch YouTube alot on my phone so I know that a 13 minute video could be as much as about 200-250mb, he says he streams hockey games but none so far this month but what about his billing cycle they do it by that not the 1st of the month

tethering off your phone easily gets data meter moving. dosnt take much tethering to get you to meet your monthly data allowance. some people take their laptop with them to work and tether off their phone, others use pandora all day at work. also netflix is notorious for consuming huge amounts of data in matter of hours, just think about it each movie in hd quality is about 1 gb or more normal quality would be 700-800 mb so lets say we watch 3-4 hd movies in 1 week that there alone is 3-4gb give or take depending how long the movie is and what quality did u watch it in. plus the streaming of youtube videos, pandora, and using tether wifi from phone to surf the net i can easily consume more than 5 gb in one week or less. Bottom line at home if you have home wifi use it. if u need to have music to listen to just fill your sd card with music.

Well, it happened. It's official. The 4g unlimited plan is NOT UNLIMITED. Regardless if they feel my data use is excessive this month, they don't take into consideration that it's practically the end of the month or that this is the first time my data use, according to them, is in the top 5%. They throttled me anyway, to the point of making my internet pratically useless. 0.03 Mbs download speed. Slower than dial up.

I'm going to the corporate store, to see these stats confirming I'm in the top 5% of all Metro PCS users. They just can't text you stating this so arbitrarily. If my internet use is so high this month, I will probably get this message every month from now on. Cause my data use this month is not close to being one of my heaviest.

Even if nobody has high usage,.... are they are still going to punish the top 5%?

In the terms and conditions, it states I cannot take this to court. Must be settled through an arbitrator.

PS..... My phone is my computer, my TV, my everything . I have hit hard times. I opted for a smartphone, and this unlimited plan instead of a laptop and Clear. So my usage is high, but noway near 25 gigs a month high. Lifetime data on the Lg connect says 65 gigs since March 2nd, 2012. Now I know this data counter on this phone is off. The total is more than that. But even if it was double that amount,.... it would still be less than 14 gigs a month.

Back in March, when I first got the LG Connect, I downloaded 11 gigs of stuff just to see if it was truly unlimited. If I was to get flagged, that first month should have been the time.

.

Metro used to be a whole lot slower, but its on an uphill climb. Mine is pretty good in south florida.

The merge has pretty much put an end to Metro as a viable, inexpensive prepaid carrier. people can say and dream otherwise, but it's only going to get worse once the Tmo people come in full on and start running things.

Tmo is behind Verizon and AT&T for a reason folks and it's because they will never be able to truly compete with the big boys.

All the Metro customers that think Tmo actually cared about them are going to be in for a shock. This merger was all about Metro's assets, nothing more and nothing less. It was/is a last resort for Tmo to stay alive in the U.S. market.

I wish it were different, but that's the reality and a lot of people are going to get screwed. I'm just glad I chose to move when I did, instead of being sucked into this mess.

Since the only customer gain tmobile has gotten for a year at the least is prepaid subscribers I think they actually do care & can see that prepaid customers pull in more revenue than contract if you look @ the investor relations plan sideshow for the next couple years that's how much effort they will be investing into the prepaid side of their operations and I really really really really like the roadmap they have put into place.... but eh who cares bout my opinion

I agree. T Mobile wants to harvest Metro. That's it. With all these MVNO's popping up everywhere, Metro PCS is not as great as it used to be. Especially when their LTE speeds are running around 1.3mbps-3.5Mbps. That's jsut pathetic when compared to Straight Talk's HSPA+ that runs around 12-14Mbps. I mean seriously? It's a no brainer.

Plus you can go buy whatever phone you want. Your not limited to what Metro offers. Sure the S3 is great. But when it's paired with a garbage LTE connection, it's pointless and dumb. Like have a porsche with a Honda motor inside of it.

MVNO's are where it's at. Paired with A Nexus, S3, Note etc...... Pffffff. Your on top of the world. :D

this is one of my reasons i decided not to buy the Gs3 and stick with my Lg connect....at, least for now.

I wonder what the new Lg phone has in store.

Everytime you post about ST vs Metro our argument does get a little better because metro is but basically everything you just said will change next year some of it has already changed
- LTE -
My friend with AT&T hasn't upgraded to LTE yet so he's still on HSPA+ he averages 7 & maxed out @7 almost 8mbps yet I max out @9mbps & average 8 on metros LTE also on some forums that have the "Post your HSPA+ speed here" threads I get faster than at least most of them.
Metro has said they will be upgrading speeds By the end of the 4th quarter in most markets my speeds have already more than tripled from 2 or 3 to 9mbps so to me it's not pathetic & in my area its better than straight talk on AT&T don't really know about tmobile though.

-MVNO + BYOD-
In 7 months most likely all of that will change Metro will have BYOD & basically be a MVNO with tmobile

Fuzzy did what he had to do. He wasn't getting good speeds from MetroPCS in his area so he went to someone who better serviced his location.

its all about who gives you the best service and the best deal. Those of us pulling down 4Mbps and up are sitting pretty paying 55 a month. why should we leave?

All this carrier rivalry stuff is silly.

I just responded with a counter argument because most people research what they're buying before they do & if they stumble across this thread & see fuzzys post which makes it seem like metros service suck for everybody & that's not going to change even with a merger so just go with an MVNO of someone else. So I just give it from the P.O.V. of the service I get.

everyone is making assumptions about what will happen with the merger. no one really knows anything.

the info that is out there bares out the opposite of metro being gobbled up.

There's no telling whats going to happen. I really wouldn't be surprised if a BYOD option became available through metro. I feel that next year they are going to have to something to stay in line with all the other carriers out there. In my area, I see a ST commercial ever hour at least and I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a Metro commercial. It's not like Metro isn't popular in my area, I mean it's Atlanta. One of the OG areas for Metro. Point is ST is getting whored out like a mofo. They are advertising their asses off. Now that theres an option for a home phone for $15, their name is becoming very well known. Metro will always be a big company, as long as it's still "metro PCS" but with all of these MVNO's getting more recognized and bigger, the playing field is starting to change.

It's going to be interesting to say the least to see what the future holds for us users. As long as there is competition, we are going to receive the benefits of it because prices vs what you actually get for your money will always be good. One of the unfortunate reasons the world needs Apple.

It's all about the area you live in. Obviously speeds aren't going to be the same from state to state. Which is why for ME, Metro just wasn't cutting it. I'm in the OG city of Metro PCS and yet data speeds are among the worst. Even at 8-10Mbps on LTE, that's on a fraction of what standard LTE speeds are. After learning and seeing first hand the difference between Metro's LTE and HSPA+, If I was given the choice of 10Mbps on Metro's LTE and 10Mbps on HSPA+, I would choose HSPA+. Why? Because LTE is an enormous battery hog when compared to HSPA+. i had always heard that but didn't actually get to see it until I tried it for myself. People might think that it's not substantial so it doesn't really matter. Well, it is. It's a very substantial difference. Obviously someone that is a first time phone buyer isn't going to know or CARE about that. This is only something someone that has the know, would care about.

So that's what works for ME in MY area. I decided to pay a lot less, get the phone I wanted all the while getting much better service and data speeds. Can't fault me for that. :D

I still have a soft spot for metro. I mean I spent 5 years of my cellular life with them. Times change and tech changes. And what I enjoy the most is that I can pack up shop and try out another carrier at any time I wanted to. I will still be on Att or Tmobile towers but plans drastically vary from one to the other and it's nice to be able to see what works best for me. Like Tmobile has a $30 plan that gets you 5gigs of data, Unlimited texts and 100 minutes. This one is becoming a widely used plan is very popular. Yeah you get 100 minutes but with great little tech goodies such as Google Voice, those 100 minutes can last a long time. But going back to what I was saying, If I tried it and didn't like it..well, i can just move on to the next one. Obviously this only appeals to people who want to be free to choose what they want and get the MOST for their money. Some people don't care.

I'm done now. Sorry :D

I pay $55 a month. I have voice over LTE(i get around 6-11mb) and assurance on my phone. :smokingsomb: No need to switch here.

Also i have free mobile hotspot so my tablet, PS Vita, or any other device connects online wherever i go.
