force 3G

I get a weak one bar signal at my home and when it's on 1x it is unusable. However I notice when it switches to 3G the data speeds are fine and the signal seems good even though it shows no bars. I don't understand what is happening but I'm thinking if I could somehow force the phone to stay on 3G I would have a good data connection. Is there a way to do that with this phone?
 
Yes and No. You can try updating PRL; you can try *#*#4636*#*# hit Phone Information and make sure you're on "CDMA auto PRL". Or you could go redneck and do what I did. Take an old sat dish and mount a stand on the focal point and use bluetooth; wala I get 3g ~ -99to-95 when before I could barely pick up 1x.

hehe...I like your satellite dish hack. I may have to try that. I'm going to try to flash the radio first. You must be out in the sticks like me.
 
I'm not way out here but far enough lol ~5-6miles to the closest tower. Berwick has a lot of hills so picking up a signal here is bad for every carrier. Yeah try the RUU radio update; although users have reported slight to no change in signal. Try to stay away from the playstore 3g/4g optimizers they don't work & sometimes completely bork signal.
