Help force close loop - factory reset?

Hi guys. My S2 (still on gingerbread) suddenly started a constant loop of force close messages..not allowing me to access anything. Stupidly haven't backed up any photos :(. Have backed up everything on my S4 now.

I have tried to clear the cache in recovery mode but no luck.

I have also tried to get into safe mode but still no luck ( I could be doing it wrong...press power button..wait til samsung logo appears then hold down volume down button til lock screeen and can see safe mode).

Was using phone's internal memory, no sd card. I have read on here that factory reset will not wipe the photos?? This goes against what I read/heard before so worried about losing the photos (less concerned about contacts). Can anyone help? What else can I do? Why does it not delete the photos?

Thank you

Hi,
the right way to boot into safe mode is turning on the phone WHILE holding Vol down, hold the Vol down until Android lockscreen appears.
Sorry, but I have no idea if pics in internal memory are deleted after hard reset, have my photos on sd card. Many users report it will not touch the photos, others have different experiences.

Thanks kejlyCZ but I couldnt get the phone to go into safe mode so in the end I had to do the factory reset. All the data, downloaded apps and contacts were deleted as expected, however I still have my photos and videos!
