Help Force Roaming

Apparently the phone has some tricks up its sleeves with the help of Launcher Pro to allow forced roaming. These steps were posted by nfd77 on the sdx forum. I really love this phone.

"Instructions:
Make sure you are in LauncherPro.
Press: Menu -> Add -> Shortcuts -> Activites -> com.lge.LgHiddenMenu -> ServicesLG.
Name the activity whatever you would like, but "Hidden Menu" will do.
Open the activity you made.
Go to: CDG2 -> Field Tests -> Roam Preference.
Choose Roam Only.


*To disable force roaming follow the instructions but on step 6 choose Any.*

Enjoy!"
 
Why would you want to be on roaming when on the Now network, 3G calls t oany carrier is unlimited, as long as you're on Sprints carrier.

Its pretty simple. Because Cell carriers have to pay their competitors when phones roam onto the competitor's networks, they tend to configure their phones to roam only when the signal is totally gone... much lower than will actually provide decent call quality. Being able to force roaming could be useful when you need a clear call.

Not all of us have the luxury of having an adequate sprint signal 100% of the time. Like someone else above me replied, I have areas I am in where I have a zero bar sprint signal. That is not strong enough to make a call and will not switch to roaming. Using this trick, I am able to force it.

One change I would suggest though, is to use affiliates first before roaming. That gave me a better roaming signal with 3g.

makes some sense. As now the droid phones we really do not have to worry bout Roaming, it is a no longer charged item like said for some, to most. basically it is done away, where 3g and 4g has stepped in.
 
@maintb Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I've been looking for a solution to this since I got my LG optimus. At home I can't get any signal, can't make calls, and the phone is not able to get any roaming signal on its own. I don't know why would they not put a "roaming only" option on the phone settings. Good thing I got internet wireless connection at home, and was able to use the phone to surf the web, otherwise my phone was useless at home. And now with this settings I can use the phone for what was intended for in the first place, making calls. So thanks again, for posting these steps. :D
 
I usually have great signal wherever I go, but there's a couple exceptions where I have no signal and my phone refuses to roam. Thank you for this!

Make sure "Unknown Sources" is checked by going to Settings->Applications from you home screen. For safety you should uncheck it after the installation is done.
 
It is checked .... I downloaded it from your post and emailed it to my Gmail. account. I tried the Gmail app and the mobile site - same error. "Parse error." I also just tried to send it via Bluetooth and got the same error when trying to launch it. Any ideas?
