Forced 2.0.1 DROID UPDATE! HOWTO

When I downloaded the file (OSX) I got a folder named "signed-voles-ESD56-from-ESD20" which then contains subfolders, it is unzipped I guess. Can I just rename this file "update"?

The file needs to be "update.zip" on the SD of the droid. I'm sure there's an OSX (or other os) setting to view that, but I have no idea.

It's downloaded as a *.zip, so so in theory you just need to rename the extra parts if ".zip" does not show.

I give up. I'll just wait for the OTA update to most likely fail the same way then bring the phone back. I'm pretty convinced there is something wrong with my existing OS since that's the part that fails the check.

tried following directions, but it says it cant download the "update" as it is not supported by phone. anyone have suggestions?

don't know if this got mentioned before or not but... you are able to download the file directly to your droid, then with Astro file manager, rename the file to update.zip (astro makes extenstions real simple when you 'rename' under edit) .. then under edit, you can move it to the root directory of the SD card (not the root directory of the phone) reboot and proceed with steps. worked awesome, didn't even need a PC to upgrade. thank you orig poster!! :D:D

Who the hell merged the topics? You got a first post with misinfo, and my add with all the right info?

MODS?

edit: Nope, my info is gone, this was orginally my topic, and I updated the first post over time.... it's gone, yay.

This is what I did.. worked like a charm.

I would suggest redownloading it, possibly from another link, then trying again.

Also, the Isles suck, Go Pens!

That appears to have done the trick, I downloaded it from Windows instead of Mac OS X.

PS: I haven't been to the nassau mausoleum in years.

Havn't installed yet but if you are using Safari in OSX you need to go to safari/preferences/general tab and uncheck "open safe files after downloading" . Then when you download the file it will remane a .zip file. Gonna try the
install in a little bit.

Thanks so much for posting this!

Some mod merged topics and failed.

I had the full howto, but it's not there anymore, some mod deleted it. Then when you click on my topic, it's a different topic.

It used to be the full step by step (howto). Hmmm, this site can DIAFJB if they can't restore, since I was compiling and updating the first post on the fly.

The first post is not mine anymore and it does NOT have complete info, the mods need to answer about this.

Mount (connect) your droid to your computer and transfer the file over to your droid.

Mods need to restore the facts, the op used to be me, but it's not me now. The subject changes when you link into this forum.

Mods need to restore my OP, or else you might not be able to figure out an early update.

...... waiting for the mods....... I'm sure it's an "honest mistake"

For those of you having problems, couple of things to try.

- Delete the file from your SD card and copy it over again from your PC. Make sure you unmount the Droid before disconnecting the USB cable.

or

- Re-download the file and try the entire sequence again...and as above, make sure you unmount before disconnecting the USB cable

Power-cycle the Droid before starting the application of the update in either case

No certainty any of this will help, just standard troubleshooting steps.

I was having the signature fail error.

It is much easier to use Astro File manager as described rather than try and mess with the download in OSX.

Download from droid.
Open astro file manager
navigate to sdcard/downloads
long hold the file just downloaded>edit>rename name update.zip
long hold update.zip>edit>move
navigate to folder sdcard
press menu on the droid>edit>paste

now you have the file in the right location named correctly.
proceed with the normal instructions.

Basically, someone merged and probably accidently deleted my howto (howto in the thread topic is what I what I wrote.

Good luck with the lack of info until the mods fix the problem.
