Forced 2.0.1 DROID UPDATE! HOWTO

I've done it via downloading through the phone browser and renaming and moving with Astro (that was my first attempt actually), then I tried with my Mac, then I tried with my Win7 box.

Seriously, nothing will work on this phone. If I understand the error I'm getting, it really isn't the file, but the existing OS that is the cause of the problem. I would bet money that your error was different than mine.

I have win7 and it didn't work for me at all. I kept getting cache, or couldn't load file. (errors) As far as people who were having the same trouble, they went the phone route and worked for them. I guess just wait for an OTA i guess.

anyone have this problem? i put it on auto brightness and when i click lock button it locks, then when i unlock it the screen never comes back on!!! stays blank!

Sorry - mine's been fine before and after the update.

Do a power cycle. Can't hurt, might help.

Installed without a hitch. Awesome, thanks!!

But I installed the daimod from the market place because it said somehting about rooting, never did use it obviously, but not it is telling me that it has detected the update.zip and want to apply Droid Heavens pulse rom to it, lol

I'm fully expecting the OTA to fail at this point. I've found one other person on earth having the same problem as me on a different forum, hopefully be comparing notes on what's similar on our phones.

Convinced at this point it's something with the OS already on the phone since it fails at verifying that.

when you say to put it on the root of my sd card. does that mean to just drag and drop it in my sd card files. this would be the first screen when i click on browse files on my pc. is that right.

Just a heads up...

When you are on the boot screen... /!\ To bring up the menu, post #9 states that you have to press the two at almost the same time and hold them for an extended amount of time.

I found this to be untrue with the two droids I have. I just held the vol+ button and tapped the camera button, then let go of both. The menu came right up immediately.

Yes, that is correct. Don't put it in a folder on your SD card. Just drop it into the screen where you see the folders and other various files listed. If you put it into a folder, the phone won't see the update...

This is interesting. On my Droid, it worked the first time I tried it (I think I pressed them at about the same time.)

On my brother's Droid, it took me several attempts trying different combinations (one before the other, same time, etc) before it would give me the reboot/update menu...I still have no idea why...

I'm not sure about "going back". But nothing happens unless you are already getting the "loading" bar. If something goes wrong before that, you are fine. I saw mentioned somewhere that it was not possible to go back to 2.0 after installing 2.0.1, but I'm not positive if that is true, just what I read...That said, it was very easy for me to update it on my phone and my brothers...

**EDIT** Just a note on how easy it was...I am completely new to smartphones, and this was a breeze...

As far as issues, I've only tested a few..It seems a bit more responsive (ie. less lag), but that could be placebo effect...Not sure yet...The camera is much faster (time between taking 2 pictures). I really haven't tested the rest of the fixes yet (some for obvious reasons, like the battery...I'll find out more about that tomorrow)...

what happens when the OTA comes out and is sent to all the phones....will we have the option to update. i guess im worried that the 2 wont be the same. lol as you can tell this is my 1st droid,i had iphone before.

Thanks for the quick response. Has any one noticed that the browser seems to be slower to load pages? Or is this just me and my area here? lol

No slowness noticed for me after the upgrade, if anything, it seems a little snappier. I'm using Wifi and it loads damn fast!

Everything seems to have gone well except two things...

1. For a moment, I swear I saw a cursor
2. Keyboard backlight wasn't coming on until I cycled through all the brightness settings with the power widget.

I have windows 7 and no problem here with the update.

Worked like a charm. Although when I was on Mac OSX side it automatically unzipped the file into a directory. So I switched over to Windows side and it worked. I guess you have to turn off auto unzip for mac's, cause it shows as a directory, not a zip file. As far as the update goes, it is FANFREAKINTASTIC. The phone is so much smoother and no problems with browser or anything.. and the camera is awesome now.

slightly OT but i notices some people saying Keyring disappeared from their phones.

i just went to the market and reinstalled it and its fine.

i cant remember was the update suppose to fix it so it supports the free yahoo mail. sorry im away from pc and cant search it out to find out my self. i know the work around but its not 100 percent working on my phone, its a hit and miss.

installed perfect..only thing is my facebook widget is not showing any of my friends default pics...at first it took forever to load the status on the widget..is it just being really slow or are others having this problem?
