Forced 2.0.1 DROID UPDATE! HOWTO

Thanks for the info! This is the perfect reward for having sat down for 6 hours straight writing up a lab report.

Updated to 2.0.1 and rooted on the same night.
 
Installed without a hitch. THANK YOU!!! I renamed the file before I downloaded it ... don't know why anyone would NOT do it that way. ??? (I.T. GEEK!) The first thing I tested was the camera, definite improvement, without a doubt. My "Gallery" shortcut no longer worked. Just had to delete it and make a new one. Had to re-login to facebook.

I'll give 2.0.1 a full test-drive tomorrow and report back if I notice anything too too goofy. Not really concerned though. LOVE my DROID!

how can you root the phone already. can you supply the steps to root 2.0.1.


is there away to disable the heptic feedback when unlocking the phone
 
i just noticed on my moto droid after the update. in the market on homepage at the top for choices, i had before was app,game,verizon now i have apps games downloads
 
Thank you all! I was really impatient about waiting for Verizon to decide to send it to me, so this thread is a godsend. Just rebooting my droid now after the update. :D
 
I just updated my phone manually, thanks to androidforums.com . The camera is much better, Takes a picture and is then ready to take another picture much faster, Rumors of installed player to now have a STOP button, NOT true :( Callers were constantly complaining of my voice sounding muffled, going in and out seems to be fixed !! But i've only made 3 calls since the update so further testing is needed for me to be confident (This was a major issue for me so my fingers are crossed!!) phone seems to also be a lil zippier. MMS was also rumored to be updated but so far phone still cant do animated GIF's

ok phew, can anyone else confirm this? That it is usual for update.zip to display on recovery mode screen? Even after you have deleted it from SD card.
 
The best thing about this site is that a tech nerd can browse threads like these and realize that he's not as geeky as the next guy. If I choose to wait for the OTA update does that mean I need to turn over my pocket protector to the geek squad?

First post!
Got it downloaded and loaded. Will have to wait for some nicer conditions to use the camera. Haven't taken too many photos yet, so nothing to really compare it to.

One thing with the update that I noticed is that if you use a picture background in Handcent is that now, after the update, the photo is centered whereas, prior to the update, it was stretched across the entire screen.

Handcent is not part of the 2.0.1 update.
 
anyone else lose all of their contacts after the update?

I did the update last night, as far as I could tell everything was working great, and my contacts were there to the best of my knowledge because I made a few calls...today however, ZERO contacts in the list, the call log still shows all of the calls I made and to those names and numbers, but the list is EMPTY...


any ideas on that?

I still have all my contacts. I do have an issue with call volume though.
 
Thanks for the instructions. I was tired of waiting for the update to show up. Installed last night and all went well. I did have to replace the Gallery shortcut as others have said, but no big deal there.

Only problem I've seen so far is with my Gmail. I went to bed after I updated last night. This morning, no email on my phone, which was very odd. I forced an update and it retrieved the messages that came in through the night. Now it seems to be working as usual, emails coming in almost instantly. Hopefully it was just a glitch.

I just forced the update and don't have Verizon in the app market anymore.

HeroStyle Clocks lite was missing on reboot... that's about it. (I just downloaded some other hero pack I like more anyway)

Also, FYI I had no issues with GDE (which was about the only thing I was worried about).
