Forced 2.0.1 DROID UPDATE! HOWTO

Anyone who did a force update - have you been notified of the OTA update? If so, what did you do and what happened? Just curious...

I can't imagine it's actually going to try to do the update again, it probably version checks just like any other kind of software patch.

so I've downloaded the update file...renamed it update.zip and transferred the file into the download folder for my sd card...where can I put the zip file in the root folder? I can't locate it...

I tried running the update but when I got to the warning screen I held down the volume + and the camera button for almost 2 minutes and nothing popped up for me...is it cause I have the update.zip file in the wrong location of the sd card?

any help to getting my phone updated would be greatly appreciated...:D

"Put it in the root" means just put it at the highest level on the SD card...not in any folder, but at the top level.

i just noticed on my moto droid after the update. in the market on homepage at the top for choices, i had before was app, game, verizon now i have apps games downloads
I did the force update also and at first i had the "apps games downloads" tabs in the market, but now it's back to "apps games verizon". Just give it a bit and it should be back to normal.

so instead of putting the file in a folder just put it in the main area prior to organizing in folder...thanks that makes more sense...

i have been holding down the volume + and the camera button for over 5 minutes and it won't go past the !warning sign and droid lying down next to it screen...am I doing something wrong?

UPDATE: ok nevermind I got the update to work...I was originally pressed both the volume and camera button at the same time but when I pressed the volume + and then the camera the update option came up just like that...

thanks for the help guys...i'll give you my reactions on the update later in the day...

I don't know if it's a bad coincidence or what, but I woke up this morning to a dead phone. Won't turn on, battery pull doesn't produce any results, and I have had it plugged in long enough to make sure the battery has juice.

Dead. Applied the .zip last night and everything was working fine.

:(

do you have to extract the zip file on your phone?

when you download the file...rename it update.zip and just put it in your main screen of your sd card when in mount...once that's done unmount the sd/droid from the computer and power the phone down...

your phone will automatically unzip the update once your in the boot screen...i found it easier to access the reboot menu options by pressing volume + 1st then camera button...then use the d pad to select the update option from sd card...once the update it done just hold the power button until it powers down your phone...

wait 10 seconds power phone back on and your good to go...

definitely an improvement...not as glitchy and no lag when playing with apps...

just wanted to let everyone know that you have to put the update on the sd card .if you put it in a folder it want find it.thats what happened to me.i also had to rename the file update because my computer added the zip entension to the end.if it has 2 zip extensions on the end it will not work.let me know if that helps.

likely bad coincidence...are you sure your charger was plugged into the wall? I've plugged in devices before not realizing that the wall plug had worked its way out...

If your HW is failing you should be able to do a swap no problem.

I just did the update as per the above instructions and everything worked great. I was so glad I didn''t have to wait any longer.

Can the update.zip be removed from the SD root on the phone now?

Thanks guys-----------

Mine's giving me the same error as Campah. I've tried every permutation of installing this thing (Mac, PC, phone, etc.) and it always gives me the error while verifying the existing system (apply_patch_check).

I'm guessing there's something about our phones that's different, however it's not something that is wiped out with a factory reset (tried that too).

Hopefully the OTA update works, if not I guess I'll be taking it back to Verizon (this is my fourth Droid... not terribly impressed if this is Motorola quality control at work).

I just forced the update and don't have Verizon in the app market anymore.

HeroStyle Clocks lite was missing on reboot... that's about it. (I just downloaded some other hero pack I like more anyway)

Also, FYI I had no issues with GDE (which was about the only thing I was worried about).

Same here...not sure if this is part of 2.01 or ?

Before update:

Apps, Games, Verizon

After update:

Apps, Games, Downloads

Verizon is gone, and no access to it from the Menu either. All the VZW apps are available in the general marketplace, so nothing is "lost" - just wondering if this is normal or a glitch...

I had the same thing. I went out of the market and then back in and Verizon is back and download is in the menu options.

Flawless victory! Everything went smooth.

Is it me, or does the camera seem louder? Like the beeping and clicking (not the mechanics).
