Forced 2.0.1 DROID UPDATE! HOWTO

I installed the update. No problems directions worked just fine.

I didn't see a change in the marketplace as others have seen. Still says Verizon, not Downloads.

It seems that the lag on the home screen is gone but might be a perception issue. It was strange that the power control widget updated itself but I was forced to recreate the Picture Widget.

I wonder what will happen when Verizon sends the update to my phone. I would guess it would check to see the current version first and skip the update if it's already applied.

I just checked the Marketplace and I have Downloads instead of Verizon.

Another interesting note: Maps have an update (3.3.1).

Everything went smoothly for me. 2.0.1 seems a little snappier, not sure how I feel about the lock screen. Did anybody else get the red Droid eye when you first rebooted for a lot longer than usual? It was worrying me for a minute, but the phone eventually did boot and it's working with the new patch. I'm afraid to reboot it and try again. I'm assuming it was just due to an update being installed, but I'm hesitant to test it.

Steps worked great!

I hit power, once the backlight came on i held x and held power and it went right to the icon recovery screen thing. No panic no nothing.

The first boot takes longer at the droid eve than usual but that's normal. Now everything runs fast as hell and the powercontrol widget is black with green bars to represent activated (similar to the speakerphone button).

Great job guys.

yes i too got the red droid eye for a while...but that was just cause of the update...

I am seeing downloads instead of verizon in the market place...a little weird...but it still works other than that...

I'm fully expecting the OTA to fail at this point. I've found one other person on earth having the same problem as me on a different forum, hopefully be comparing notes on what's similar on our phones.

Convinced at this point it's something with the OS already on the phone since it fails at verifying that.

hey I've got the same error as you

I had the same problem, came from cyan camp on G1. know what I was doing but seemed SOL went to vrz store and just a brand new unit.

mine went without a hitch, very smooth and nice
runs fast and smooth, all seems to work great
market app has download tab instead of verizon but no biggie since all them apps are in reg marketplace anyhow.
browser is fast as ever, facebook seems to work, resyned contacts, all there.
did test camera before/after and took 6sec before now takes 4sec from hit button to take pic till back to take another pic. if drop resolotion to 3mp then its 3 secs till next pic ready
works with home++ fine and overall so far i am liking it, time to sit and play some more.... i swear i have hardly put this Droid down in the month ive had it!!! LOL
will wait and see if the verizon update ever gets to me... lol

i have not received the dreaded 1x sence i forced updated lastnight before i would receive it everytime i was in the market,as for downloads being in placed of verizon, if you reboot your phone it fixes it. only app i lost was a punisher theme. i couldnt find it anywhere in the market, lucky i had the dev email and emailed him my issue, he updated it to 2.0.1 and i saw it in the just in section. i still have issue with mms

Boot while holding down X
Then when you get to the caution screen (triangle with a !), press Vol + and Camera Button
Select Update from SD card "update"
..

When done, reboot.

I just did this and it worked. However, the first boot took a lot longer than normal, then the unit wouldn't unlock. I pressed the power button once then pressed it again to sort of "reset" the lock screen. It was totally locked up and didn't work. I did a battery pull and now it works great. I can verify that the camera issues are resolved.

Not quite that problem, but something sorta similar. A few minutes after installing the update without a problem, my home screen icons and widgets just... disappeared. Restarted the phone and all was fine. Then I noticed that my screen was SUPER bright and my touch navigation buttons on the bottom (as well as the physical keyboard) wasn't lit up at all. Made sure the brightness settings hadn't been changed, and they were still set to automatic. Restarted again, and now all seems well.

I can definitely tell a difference in speed now :D

I'm having this same problem, which worries me. I've rebooted my phone thrice now, and that takes care of it, but if this is an ongoing issue I'm going to want to uninstall.

Does anyone know if there is a way to UNinstall this update? I'd love to get some instructions for that.

Probably not without hacking and rooting your phone. Even then I don't know if you can.

Not worth the hassle. Hope for a fix rather than taking a step back. You'll end up worse off overall.

Yeah, I'm not interested in the hack n' root track. I was just hoping there might be some clean and easy way to undo it, and then I could just wait for the OTA update. If the problem persists I'll probably just do a factory reset, which I REALLY don't want to do since I'll lose all my downloads and settings.

Also, I'm curious, has anyone out there who has installed this also received a notification that their upgrade is available? I'm wondering if it'd still be possible to do the OTA upgrade. I'm also wondering if this will screw me for future OTA upgrades.

This also worked very well for me, only now it seems like im seeing 1X a lot more than 3G and also i havent gotten any of my emails from my gmail account sinse ive updated.

I think back lighting uses the photo sensor at the top of the screen. My buttons do not light up in light conditions but do in the dark.

The next time I went into Marketplace after I posted that I had Downloads instead of Verizon, Verizon was there again.

Not sure why it finally switched back - I had done the update last night, and had been into Marketplace many times since the update.

In any case, it appears that issue will fix itself for everyone at some point - someone else posted the same, that Verizon reappeared after a while...

I just did test#2 for the day. I sent myself an email from my work computer using my work email account to my gmail and it arrived in seconds. (It still has not hit the gmail program on the work computer yet.)

I don't seem to be getting my gmail either with this update.

I had this problem initially. I went to Gmail, then hit menu and clicked Refresh. That got my mail syncing again.

That said, I still think I'm going to to a factory reset on my phone, then just wait for the OTA update.

No probs w/any gmail or email delivery since the update - I have four Gmail accounts and one IMAP account and all are working normally...

Try turning the phone on and off, might help.

Try doing a manual refresh of the gmail accounts - may clear some issue that's blocking things.
