Help ford sync

I know this is an old thread but it might benefit someone. My Ford dealer updated my Sync version to 3.2.6...this is the first generation of Sync, not the buggy MFT.
Updating my phone to ICS back in the Fall of 2012 broke the text message feature in the previous version of Sync. Today, as soon as I got in my car at the dealer's and my phone connected, I got the text message chime It works again!

I went through the re-pairing of the device to Sync, and the turning off then on of the Map in Sync. All failed to fix the problem.

What fixed it was unlocking and looking at the phone when you turn on the car. The phone will ask if this device can read messages. Select YES.

Everything works fine now.
