Help Forget Flash

If Adobe Flash Player doesn't work for Android, what does? By the way, didn't Adobe used to work with Android? Why'd they stop?

https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installing-flash-player-android-devices.html

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Flash_Player :

Up until 2012, Flash Player 11 was available for the Android (ARM Cortex-A8 and above),[61][72] although in June 2012, Google announced that Android 4.1 (codenamed Jelly Bean) would not support Flash by default. Starting in August 2012, Adobe no longer updates Flash for Android.[73] In spite of this, Adobe Flash is still available to install on Android devices via Adobe's update archives (up to Android 4.3).

What do we use for Lollipop? It sounds as if Android abandoned Adobe rather than vice versa. Why would they do that?

From what I remember and understand, I think it's the more widespread adoption and use of other video formats (i.e., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC) by many/most of the sites that produce them (i.e., going (went) away from Adobe Flash).

It's funny because everything used to be all about Flash videos and in a fairly quick fashion (a few years) things have moved away from that methodology.

Actually it was Adobe who abandoned all mobile OS support for Flash, and in fact they abandoned desktop Linux as well. Adobe now only supports and updates Flash for Windows and Mac OS X, and that's it. Many sites these days have moved away from Flash anyway, and I'm sure Apple iOS had something to do with it, because that's never supported Flash, which probably generated a lot of howling from iPad and iPhone users about websites not working.

There is Puffin Browser you can use, that runs the latest Flash on their servers, rather than the mobile device itself.

I think what broke the discontinued Flash 11 version for Android was the change from Dalvik to ART in Lollipop. It's just not safe at all to use old out of date versions of Flash anyway, and in fact some browsers on PCs, like Firefox will block it as well, if the installed Flash version is not current.

From what I've seen, especially on Chinese sites, one of the main uses for Flash is for showing ads. obnoxious intrusive video ones that play sound. So its absence is really a benefit to everyone IMO.

You want flash on android?

Heres one method that works.

I have a device running 5.1.1 and what i did was install the most recent build of flash for android (it can be found on Adobe's site. I believe its a series of numbers ending in .81 i think. Dont quote me on that.

I installed it as a normal app (dont open it) instead go install dolphin broswer (note that there are flash settings inside of settings for dolphin browser)

Flash now works in the browser.

Personally I think you should address the problem the other way round and disable flash from all your Windows PCs.

I've done it and haven't had any problems... It's a far more secure way to be.

In 2016 why would anyone want flash anyway?

Some sites still exclusively use flash (im thinking Porn and illegal streaming)

And some perfectly legit websites still use flash or flash components
