Forget the Passwords

Hi all! I just got an HTC Desire and am new to smartphones in general. I downloaded the Yahoo mail application and when I "removed" my account (I read this is the way to "log out" from my email/screenname - please let me know if there is a better way to log out), the phone still remembered my screenname and password. Is there any way to get the Desire to NOT remember my password/screenname on Yahoo mail? Is there a way to make the phone automatically forget all passwords after logging out of applications? Thanks so much for the help! It is a bit daunting trying to figure out a smartphone... :o

The value of apps is that once you set your login, you don't need to do it again.

If you are concerned about others getting a hold of your emails, etc., you might want to install a 3rd party app locker (I think there is one called App Locker) from the Market. The you can lock down any APP that already has your login.

If you rather just "logout" and be done with it, DON'T install apps. Use your phone's browser to log into the site like you would from a computer. And you have to make sure that the browser you're using is not retaining the password in memory.

For ease-of-use, I'd recommend an app-locker type program and using apps over using a browser. Apps are usually faster :)

Hi BookLover - thanks so much for your response! I did install the app locker as you suggested. It is very useful, thank you! You said, "you have to make sure that the browser you're using is not retaining the password in memory" if I use the browser instead of apps. Can you tell me how I can make sure the browser or my phone isn't retaining the passwords and screennames? I don't know how to do that.

I think the stock browser and dolphin DON'T retain passwords. I don't use them, so I can't remember for sure.

Opera Mini DOES retain passwords IF you choose that option in the settings.

The easiest way to check if your browser is retaining the PW or not is to log into a site. Exit out of the browser. Then re-open the browswer and go back to the same site and see if you're automatically logged in or if it asks you to re-login. If the latter, then you are ok. To be safe, just make sure that whenever you log into a site you UN-check anything that asks you "keep you logged in for X-days" or similar.
