Root Format Internal Partition

jb7038

Lurker
(Using the latest SDcard CWM. Tried using the latest CWM through RomManager)

So I finally got my replacement nook and straight out of the box, rooted it and tried to set it up to dualboot by using prep-dualboot-0.1 after using manual nooter 4.5.6.

When flashing the dualboot, I keep getting this error.
..
..
E:Error in /sdcard/prep-dualboot-0.1.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.

So I thought I messed up somewhere with the partitions and had no space so I decided to look at the available space through the nook settings. For some odd reason, it says 1GB as opposed to 3.x GB or so which my defected nook had. I already tried reverting it back with remove-dualboot-0.1.zip.

Heck I even tried going into do ADB and doing rm -rf /* while in CWM but it really didn't fix anything.

So I'm guessing I messed up my partitions badly to the point where reinstalling stock FW or removing the dualboot with the removal zip won't help. Any suggestions? Is it possible to wipe the nook COMPLETELY and just remake the partitions via firmware?

How exactly can I fix my partitions? Is there a way to format the internal memory COMPLETELY?

Barnes & Noble has started shipping new NOOK Color devices that are partitioned to allow only 1 GB of "user sideloaded" storage. The remaining 7 GB are partitioned for the OS, apps from the new B&N Apps store, and items downloaded directly from B&N. For the typical (non-rooted) device, the user would have to use the microSD slot for additional storage. I suspect you got one of the newly partitioned devices, which is why you are now seeing only 1 GB instead of the previous 5 GB of storage available.

I am very glad that I got one before that started the new partitioning.

Ugh no wonder why I saw a difference from the store models and my refurb.

Is there anyway to repartition the new devices or I'm stuck with this? If not, it's going to prevent me from dualbooting or even...installing a CM7.

Already have!

Edit

Also where did you get your source for that information, Topolady?
I got my info from a BN NOOK employee, but if you check the specs for the NOOK Color on the BN website, you'll see they have changed the footnote on storage space. There are also several threads in the NC discussion board.

This change will probably benefit some, cause headaches for others, and be a non-issue for the rest, but I just wanted to let you know that the change in storage space wasn't due to anything you did!

jb7038 (and anyone else interested),

DeanGibson posted this in a thread on the BN website, with steps to re-convert your NC. You might want to take a look for yourself:

http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/bn/board/message?board.id=NOOKcolorGeneralDiscussion&message.id=44356

Note: I have not rooted my NC, and I still have the "old" partitioning allocation, so I haven't tried this myself. Also, this is just one person who is already looking at ways to do this--I have no idea if this method is viable or not.

Caveat emptor!

Hello and Thank you for all of the fantastic information i have found over the past 3 days. I am a Nook Color noob. I got my nook on Friday night. I had it completely rooted and was taking advantage of the Andriod market by friday night. I decided to install a flash 10.3 update and BOOM... Brick.... I cannot format data partition to get back to factory defaults. HAS ANYONE figured out how to partition this data drive yet? Thank you. Steve B
