Help Format SD card help

I just starting getting the low on space message yesterday. Internal Storage Space says it has 17.26 MB Available. I keep my text messages and call log deleted every week, and barely do anything with the phone other than check Weatherbug and sports scores on CBS Sportsline.

I'm not tech savvy at all on this phone. It's not "rooted" as you guys say. I've never used the SD Card for anything, so nothing has been moved over to it.

I've read about this Dalvik Cache. But I can't even find "recovery" on my phone.

Can someone help me out?
 
I need to format my SD Card on my computer when I get home tonight. My phone keeps telling me that it is out of memory. But the SD Card is greyed out when I go to move some apps to it.

I just don't understand how this phone can be out of memory. I delete all text messages, There are no pictures on the phone. The call log is empty. I have very few apps on the phone.

I just hope I can move some of these apps to the SD Card or the phone will be useless to me if I can't find a professional to clean it up.
 
Help again. I formated the SD Card on my computer. And it did work. I saved some pics to it and the phone can see the pics, etc.

But I am still unable to move apps to the card? When I go to management applications, the button to "move app to SD card" is greyed out.

So now what?
 
It's about not being able to move apps to the SD Card. The Card is formated, but the option to move apps is always greyed out. I was able to move one app to the SD card, but all others are greyed out.
 
If your V is stock, you can't move most, if any of the factory apps that came with the phone to your SD card. And there are some apps, that even if you are rooted, shouldn't be placed on the SD card for performance reasons...I'm sure a mod will see this and help you with why your previous posts have not shown up...
 
To add to what Tuller said, an app can only be moved to the SD card if the app developer has added that function to the app. If they didn't, there's probably a valid reason why. Like widgets for example, should never be moved to the SD.
 
Thank you for this explanation. I went through every app and found some more that could be moved.

I guess from now if I ever download an app, which I seldom do, I will try to see right away if it can be moved, and if it can't, I will delete it.

I know you guys talk about rooting the phone. However, I'm probably only about 4-5 months away from upgrading to a new phone. By upgrading I mean coughing up some money for the latest and greatest. I'm pretty sure I will have to pay more than I paid for this Optimus V.
 
In all honesty if VM USA had still been solid in my area, I would more than likely still be using my OpV. When you root and add a custom rom to that little phone it's like having a new phone. That little OpV is one of the most solid little phones you're ever going to own. If it were me, Id hold on to that sucker till it died.... then Id shop for the latest and greatest.

Just my two cents.
 
I'm with Petrah again with this one. I've had my V for almost 16 months and can honestly say, I've never had a problem with it. Unfortunately, I cant say the same for VM coverage. I was hoping that as time went on, it would be get better, but for me it's went south. So, will be buying a GSM Galaxy Nexus soon and putting it on Straight Talk...T-Mobile, where I am and will be doing most of my traveling, is 2g at best...
 
Are the apps you're trying to move the stock apps that came on the device? Those are in a different partition than the apps you download and don't directly have an impact on your storage. If they are updated, those updates are in your available storage. So if you can uninstall the updates, do so.
