Root formatting new sd card

Hi I posted this before but I think in the wrong place, hopefully this is now correct.
I have a Wildfire. I think I am going to 'root' it any day now, but I have ordered a new 16gb memory card.. Is is better to wait to do this until I have the new card or doesn't it matter? I currently have two 2gb cards, one in my phone and one I could reformat. Also, probably a really daft question but is formatting it from my pc different to formatting it from my phone, and will both/either way allow me to store apps on it. Many thanks in advance.

depending on which rom you choose to use(some have dalvik cache on sd, some don't), but i would wait and do it, it one hit, and format sd in phone. pretty sure its the same as if you formatted on pc using fat32.
i presume you are one of the lucky ones that have 2.1 still, which rom are you going to use?

Don't know about changing the rom yet. If I have understood this 'root' process correctly, I don't need to change it straight away! Is this correct?
