Former iPhone users.. are you pleased?

Even though our video chat still needs to work wrinkles out.. the iOS4 video chat will only be over wi-fi for 2010.. what kind of sh@#t is that? If you and you're partner have to find a n open wi-fi spot to video chat, OMG what a hot-mess that will be.

So basically... if you have a friend with an Evo, they can start a wifi hotspot, which the iPhone4 can connect to to do video chat.. nice!

So far I really like the device. It has its quirks here and there but i enjoy the customization and just how big the screen is. However im still struggling to get my music looking like it did on my iphone. I had all the album artwork and it was nice to scroll through it. I still havent found something to do it easily on my evo. any suggestions?

There is an app called "Album Art Grabber" that pulled all of my album art. Its costs just under $3. I used Doubletwist (free download on computer) to pull all my music from itunes and transfer it to my EVO's microsd. Once all the music was loaded, i ran Album Art Grabber and it pulled everything like a champ, and, if for some reason it pulls the wrong artwork, it gives you the option to search the web for the right art. One click and my artwork was all in place.

And the most brilliant post of this whole thread....

<<It did take awhile to learn the intricacies of this phone. The layout just isn't as idiot proof simple as iPhone. That's not to say that android is complicated, its just that iPhone is dumbed down to the lowest common denominator.>>

I sold my iPhone 3gs two weeks before the release of the EVO because I was so sick of ATT.

I LOVE THE EVO!! Period. Flexibility, better screen, amazing camera, AND FLASH VIDEO.

Thanks for asking!

I know this is an Evo thread and I have a motodroid, but I wanted to say that I love android. Took a minute to get used to, but now I can't get enough. It's tinkerers dream!

VERY much so. I only wish I could continue using iTunes to manage my music but other than that, all is very well. Glad to have "jumped ship".

On the 24th, I'll pick up my iPhone 4 from the Apple Store, then on the way back, I will stop at Radio Shack to return my Evo.

Just curious to get some HONEST feedback from people who switched from the iPhone to the EVO. Especially from the hardware and interface perspective.

Personally, I just wish the Google OS was more refined. Even with a 1 Ghz processor, the Evo stutters when scrolling apps, menus, etc...Overlays look old and ugly too...with that nasty solid grey background (you know, from the 80's)...the youtube app button overly, the way the volume looks, the horrid handcent pop up.

I also really wish the OS took better advantage of the higher resolution. For example, the iPhone shows more songs on a play list on its smaller display than the EVO on its bigger display. They keyboard is ginormous, and I can fit more lines of text on an email with the keyboard up from my 3 year old iPod Touch with a 3.5" screen than on my 2 week old EVO with a 4.3" screen.

Google has no excuse for not being flat out better than the iPhone OS. They have more money and more resources. They better fix it quick,

As much as I love my EVO, if the iPhone was on a better network, I'd be likely to switch. The only thing rooting ever got me was tethering, and I don't use that often enough.

I just think the iPhone OS is more refined. I shouldn't have to root and tweak the h3ll out of my phone just to make it work right. Even still, you KNOW the android experience is not as 'smooth' as an iPhone, in any respect.

But, a phone is part hardware, part network. I've never had any issues with Sprint, thus, I have an EVO.

Your thoughts?

iPhone is very refined. And the few things that it does, it does well. But it is also very closed. I like to tweak things and mess with stuff, the Evo is for me. If I just liked to play games, listen to music, text and talk on the phone, the iPhone would be a great phone for that. But I am too restless for that.

The iPhone OS (or iOS now) is definitely the better, smoother, seamless user experience right now. Android does have some work to do, but I believe it will get there. But you also have to remember that iOS only runs on iProducts. It is very much proprietary software. And Android, especially running with Sense, does have a lot of features (home screen widgets!) that iOS lacks and is in desperate need of.

As far as hardware, well it seems like Apple was working maybe a little too much on their software because in my view, they're a little behind right now. Not to say they don't have secret prototypes behind the curtain that may boggle the mind. I am very happy with the EVO itself. Camera (both of them), screen (size! and look), and overall size (not too bulky for something as big).

The biggest selling point was probably the WiFi Hotspot feature, especially since Sprint is not capping their data plans, like AT&T is doing now. Plus, it's an actual WiFi Hotspot, not just phone tethering over USB or Bluetooth.

Also, I'm hoping to see 4G in my area soon (greater Los Angeles) and take advantage of that, which is supposed to happen by the end of the year. When AT&T rolls out it's LTE network, no luck for the iPhone 4.

All in all, I am happy I made the switch to Sprint and the EVO. I have had each of the iPhones so far (even waited in line for hours for them), and I just wasn't impressed enough with the latest. Now, I will be waiting to see what Apple comes up with next .. and I might just have to switch back, but the mobile phone market is starting to get pretty hot!

You sound like an Apple fanboy. Obviously your not, because you don't use one. First off, I had a 3G and I have the S , and I'll be getting the new 4 on Thursday. Simply put, apple makes a very reliable piece of hardware. The iPhone is really good in my book. However , dropped calls are insane, and a way of life with it. My EVO blows the S out of the water. And honestly, even with some of the EVO issues, its in the lead right now for the best device I've ever owned. And I've owned plenty!

I owned a 3G and 3GS. I won't own the iphone 4. The EVO has spoiled me with freedom. I have yet to drop a call with Sprint and my battery lasts all night whereas my iphones would be dead from the crappy AT&

I love my EVO, but lately I've been having orientation issue. It won't rotate unless I shake it. And yes I did all the calibration and orientation is checked.

As a former iphone owner 2g 3g and 3gs im very impressed. Screen is wonderful, browsing the internet is a bit different with the pinch and zoom but not something I won't easily adapt too. Being as customizable as it is the evo trumps the iphone quite a bit. My battery life is excellent if not twice as good as the 3gs. The one and only draw I'm noticing is sprints cell phone signal penetration really really sucks. with mY iphone I generally had 4 -5 bars everywhere. Inside any building with sprint I never have more than 1 bar. Hopefully this is something I won't regret too much in the next two years as I'm fairly certain I'll be dropping at&t when my 30 day trial comes to an end. Anyone who may be debating the switch will be pleasantly surprised.

iPhone 3G owner here. I absolutely love my EVO and the faster 3G speeds I get with Sprint. No reception problems and Sprint's customer service thus far has been great.

I've had my Evo since launch, as well as, the original iPhone and 3G version. My first week was rocky. And made me really appreciate what I had taken for granted with the iPhone OS. Overall, the iPhone OS is better imo. But it should be with its maturity.

That said, my second week has been better, and I really do like the Evo. I have a few colleagues that are getting the iPhone 4 and I'll make my decision after that. But so far, it's going to take a lot to get me to return the Evo. I really love the hardware!!

The few things that bug me is my SMS being stamped with the wrong time so the conversation thread is wrong. Always having to download a PDF as a separate file/app than within the browser. The fact they designed the phone with the camera lens sticking out. The "continuos" ringtones. And the Facebook app just plain out stinks.

But what really confuses me is with the iPhone and various Android phones out there, why in the world are people still using a Blackberry?!

sorry this won't help much yet, but i plan on writing an in depth review tonight and posting it here.

by the way, i'm posting this off my macbook using my evo with the FREE built in usb tethering. downloading files on 3B at about 800-900 KB/sec too.

Most businesses give their employees BB because of the integration with email and its easy to type on. Some people hate using a keyboard that doesnt have actual keys.

I own an EVO and have had every iPhone since the beginning. When my contract is up with ATT I am getting rid of that phone. DROPPED CALLS (60-75% of calls drop) slow, unresponsive OS, slow 3G speeds. Although as pointed out the OS is definitely smoother than Android you definitely can't customize it as much as Android.

My only complaints about the EVO are service penetration, as mentioned earlier in this thread, it is hard to get 4g or 3g inside buildings. Plus in DFW the 4G coverage is spotty at best. And battery is an issue, but it is with my iPhone as well. Also, iTunes much easier to use for syncing music. And finally, the phone is just a little too big for my hands. I like how big the screen is but personally would take a smaller screen for better comforate.

my 2 cents.

Agree on all points and love the EVO because of this.

Also like multi-tasking. Example...can use my phone to listen to a radio show while working out. New personal e-mail comes in, it makes one sound. New work e-mail comes in, it makes another sound and bang, I can switch over to check my e-mail and see if it's important without ever turning off the radio program.

Also think it integrates much better with Exchange and is a better business tool by far.

Drawbacks so far have been battery life (still tweaking, but I believe I'll get there) and I'm having a bit more difficulty with the keyboard than I did on my iphone 3g.

Oh and the sprint customer service people are buffoons.

Ipod touch since launch, 3g since launch, first to get the ipad on my local bestbuy, completely in love with the EVO, sold my 3g and not looking back to iphones.... EVO + IPAD the perfect combo...

Bars in the CDMA world mean little compared to your ability to make a call. What you will find is even with 1 bar your calls will be crisp, clean AND WILL NOT DROP...In the CDMA world we say BARS MEAN NOTHING UNLESS YOU WANT A LONG ISLAND....:D

AT&T is in to bars...and we know what happens with that...

Well I have to say after owning all the iphone models the
Evo is much more enjoyable too use as I can customize it how I want.however the build quality is rather lacking on the Evo. If I wanted to play games I would have stayed with an iphone, but otherwise love what Android os brings to the table.
