ok I researched rooting and I find it fascinating I'm still not going to root but I wished to know about the process what it is

The Gnex was ridiculously easy to root. but I've rooted quite a few devices before it as well.

The basics for rooting the Gnex is just get ADB and fastboot working, unlock the bootloader, push CWM, flash SU, reboot. Most phones are not nearly that easy ;)

yeah some phones are root friendly while others...not so much

For mine, I just used gingerbreak. Super easy. But my phone came with Sudo access already so some terminal commands and you can get it pretty easy as well. I know many others can be much harder.

SA actually posted a way to root the Gnex recently using the update.zip method without unlocking the bootloader  that is how I rooted my mp3 player and a cheap tablet I had about a year ago. Given this method for the gnex doesn't allow you to flash roms but still if you just want to use TiBU or something like that it is great.

@MP Remember you can more than likely root later so there is no rush. I remember when it was suspected that the TB would become unrootable once the OTA for GB was released, we had a "Root now or forever hold your peace" sticky and everything then the OTA came and went for a while it was true but not anymore. I still think with Android when there is a will there is a way :D

and that's the beauty of it! by the way I have a question if you have a droid x and it's rooted and flashed to cricket can you still receive the OTA update for it? I'm trying to help this guy out and I am at a bit of a loss here lol

No I don't think you would get the OTA since it comes from VZW, if he does it will break his root, I am not sure if he could SBF back to stock and then SBF to the update and root again I don't know if that would mess with the phone being flashed to cricket or not...I don't think it should but flashing to another carrier isn't something I have ever done.

I saw the thread. I would just hold off on posting in it since I haven't played around with a DX I am not 100% certian. The thread was moved to the right section I am sure the folks there will be able to assist him and give suggestions beyond what I could provide.

well I'll never become a guide at this rate...One person was asking about a trash bin I had no clue what they meant by it then they said "oh I found out by long pressing on the screen" I was like...
