A mate found a HTC Desire HD on the train but the phone has been locked, is there any way of unlocking it?

No, but you can call the wireless provider, and give them the phones serial number so they can notify the owner, if they call in, that's it been found.

That doesn't solve the issue and I would imagine that Ebay would kick off (whoever buys it would surely complain to them)

Well someone's stated you can't unlock it so flogging it for a bit of cash is the best option now since it would seem the op has no intention of giving it back to the owner or police.

But you're right, forget eBay, just sell it to one of them dodgy phone shops.

Hand it in to the police they can get the owners number and contact them. I had two friends who lost Iphones that then turned up at a police station. Do the right thing you never know when you may loose yours.

Well said - I'd be gutted if I lost my DHD and would hope that it would turn up like that!! :)

I guess one of the dodgy phone shops would be the only other option, as they'd prob use it for parts... although I believe that the police option is clearly the right thing to do!

I think he, sorry, I mean his "mate" has no intention of doing that lol

I suspect that it will be (if that's not the type of lock the OP was referring to) IMEI locked anyway.

That's most likely the case yes; if the owner has reported it lost/stolen then it will be barred from all networks. Furthermore, attempting to unlock it (by changing the IMEI code) is illegal.

Even if that isn't what you meant by locked aelsha, the right thing to do would be to report it to the police who will attempt to contact the owner. It is not your friend's property, so unlocking it shouldn't be the priority here.
