Found newest model ipod touch 8g,what to do?

So I'm kinda stuck in a moral dilemma. I found the newest model ipod touch 8g when I was out on a walk a couple days ago. It is locked with a passcode (I know I can reset it while holding the home button and power button while connected to the computer)

But I called Apple, gave them the serial code and they told me "Well they didn't care about it that much, because they never registered it. So it seems like you just got a new ipod...enjoy it".

I placed an ad on craigslist a couple days ago, but I havent heard anything back.

So, should I just go ahead and restore it and use it as my own. Or should I keep waiting and posting ads on craigslist every week or so?.

It doesnt seem like they took very good care of it, the screen has no protector on it, the case was very old. And the chrome backing of the ipod is very scratched up.

i would make a flyer and put 3,4 of them up in the vicinity of the area u found it.. 2 weeks, no hits.... ITS YOURS!!

In this situation the passcode is actually harmful to the user because you can't look up what their apple id is to e-mail them. It doesn't show you the apple id if you plug it into your computer does it? If not, I'd suggest what the person above said. Maybe post some flyers and if you don't get any responses it's yours. I don't really see what else you can do.

id make a few posts on craigslist, stating you found an ipod touch, be as vague as possible. then any one who replies, ask them where they may have lost it, and ask for any describing factors. also put up some fliers, just be vague.

i usually wait one week whenever I find anything, then I start to use it as my own, but if the owner contacts me i willingly give it back.

never give it to the police or someone who works near where you find it. most of the time they just pocket it themselves.

I think you've done more than enough, however I personally would keep searching for the owner because I never want itunes infecting my computer again.

The moral thing to do is to put it into dfu recovery mode and do an update with iTunes. Create an account and use the device to its full potential. Jailbreak and costomize it.

Well I posted some flyers where I found it, other than some "yeah its mine, but I dont remember what my screen saver was or what my case was on it" I didnt get any good replies.

I posted it on craigslist and got the same responses...So I just did what h4x0rj3ff said...

I had to put it in dfu mode and wipe it, played with it for a little bit...then me being a rooted android guy I had to jailbrake the ipod....pretty damn cool.

But I still love my android.
