Freaky Ad Annoyance

Frisco

Bounces with scrolling so it stays on screen. Can be Xed out but returns on every new page.

Mee too, I'm getting the new Radio shack ad on every page, every time. My cookies aren't turned off, not really hurting anything. Kinda annoying at times.

First, I have to say that I love phandroid...great source of information, fun forums, etc...but the Radio Shack banner is super annoying! I clicked it to show my support of the website, but it just wont go away!

I understand the need to get some ad revenue, and I support it, but freedom of speech allows me to say that it's annoying...

Until I have the coin to change my name to gold:D, I'll live with the ads. Actually, the Radio Shack banner accross the bottom isn't too bad. The square popups are larger than my display area on my netbook at home and those are a PITA:mad:

I guess it's whatever your preference is....those square popups never bothered me, but I felt the banner was overpowering...to each his own...phandroid has to get paid somehow...

Bwahahaha! (sorry Frisco, it's just funny to me)

And ad block works for me... I never see them. Well, I didn't back when I had internet and could use something other than my phone to read the forums....lol

So, you think the OP is not a Premium Member?

Tooshhhaaayyyy doood! :D

LOL, I don't know what you green dudes see. I just thought I saw somewhere the gold folks saw less or no ads. And I'm kinda surprised that Phases is hinting that I shouldn't go premium. I still feel that I get more out of the forums than I put back, so I was planning on going gold.

He was saying that premium doesn't cut back on ads. So do not do it for that reason.

Well, Premium Members who end up on Staff have the Staff color, not the gold. ;)

The remark by Phases was in light of the reason some go Premium: to get rid of annoying popup ads, which doesn't always happen. As I mentioned to you in the PM about moving your post to here, it's been an ongoing issue.

I think it speaks to the whole problem of hooking up with ad agencies that are relentless in getting their material exposed, even in the face of complaints: each "hit" or view of a banner popup is dollars for them. How that translates to dollars for the Site Owner I think is not the issue, because he hates the ads too. ;) It's those agencies and their high tech methods of shooting the ads into our screens; a battle between them, the Site Owner and the developers of popup blockers for our browsers.

It wasn't me you PM'd or my post you moved. At least not that I know of. I think you may be confusing me with someone else. And like I said earlier, I still feel like I get more out of AF than I put in, so I do plan on changing my name to gold. The ads really don't bother me that much. I just thought I saw somewhere that there were fewer or none with paid, but that wasn't what was driving my decision to pay up.

BTW: I'm sorry to Phases if I misconstrued your post.

It used to say that, but they never made it work that way. So they took that part out of the premium/free comparison.

I'm happy ...

That is so cool. :)

:D

Ok ok.. in the face of frustration many of us josh around about it. ;)

It bothers us all.. it bothered me to the point of making sure I use adblock+ in Firefox because that disallows the ad and just about all others. :)

Probably not to be honest. It has been removed before, but always finds its way back - and it takes me quite a long campaign of complaining to get a push for its removal started.

Let me see if I can help you out ...

Tell Radio Shack that you know of at least one customer who will not step foot in any of their stores until it is permanently removed.

(I am using Inrernet Explorer on a dual screen system with the work spread across a 48" width. This "cutie" occupies over 1/4 of that space(s).)

fwiw it isn't Radio Shack specifically putting that add there.... and if its not a RS add then it will be a different add. Blame belongs to the over zealous add agencies (imo that is)

Yep it's the ad agency. And *I* can't tell them anything, unfortunately. Rob handles all the ad stuff. Shoot him a PM or email at Rob at phandroid.com!

I don't mind ads as I know this is a free forum, but the radioshack banner ad that pops up everytime you go to a different forum, different page, different post is a little rediclous. I hate to complain but is having it popup on every page really needed? :o

Use tapatalk and you won't see those ads. Or if on computer use Firefox with ad blocker. There are ways to get rid of them,
