Best buy is offering free $35 airtime card with purchase of Evo V, but requires new in-store activation.

I wonder if I can activate a new account and transfer phone number from my existing virgin acct.

you'd probably have to port your number out and then back in. Tmobile.com should still be doing a promotion on prepaid sim activation kits. Something like $0.99 or $1.99 each shipped. Comes with $3.33 initial value, which is enough to activate and get your number out.

For anyone that purchased their phone at Best Buy anytime prior to today, I would head for the store and attempt a price match of some sort, and see if you could walk out with the $35.

This is an interesting one, as the Best Buy policy doesn't allow price matching in this situation, since it is adding a "free item" and not dropping the price. On the flip side, if they refuse to offer you something you can (threaten to) return the phone (since if you can price match you are in the return period) and buy a new one..

San Jose CA:

Try going to the Best Buy Mobile store and try it there. When I bought my Moto Triumph there was a 30% off deal but you had to activate in store. After buying the phone I told the dude I can activate it myself as it was close to closing time and he let me walk out with the phone at discounted price but did give me a new number for the new phone. I just called Virgin Mobile up swapped the phone to my existing line.

I just about bought an Evo V 4G on Saturday... but decided to wait until Best Buy's Sunday ad came out to see what this week's prepaid deals would be. I saw the $35 card deal in the ad and ran down to Best Buy Sunday morning. I'm happy I waited.

All of our local Walmarts have the Evo V 4G for $287... so the Best Buy deal isn't bad at all.

I'm very impressed with this phone. I didn't think there would be Wimax service in this area according to the Sprint maps and would have to live with 3G... but I finally learned about Clearwire after buying the phone and found out they do serve our area, so that was a big plus.
