Free VoIP Calling Using Google Voice + Sipdroid

Thanks all,
Tried csipsimple and it is again working but now I have a shaky internet so call quality is bad. I wonder what the long term solution with more reliability is? FRE, is great but I wonder if there is a "magic Jack" available for VOIP on WIFI phones. Perhaps it's just cat and mouse for now.
Thanks again,
StillHacking

UPDATE:
PBXes.org has halted service on my free account. I can successfully connect, but incoming and outgoing calls are dead. Smooth move! My account has not been deleted.

Boooooooooooooooooooooooo to PBXes.org for not being transparent about this.

I switched to sipgate.com and use google voice call back now.

UPDATE 2:
My hero from Android Central gave me this advice:

If one logs into the pbxes.com website, then "Personal Settings" tab, then "Submit and Start", that seems to update/reset the entire configuration."

This fixed my situation. PBXes.org is up and working.

I lost my Evo a few weeks ago, so I picked up my brother's old iPhone 3G and installed Groundwire, then configured it with my pbxes account (previously set up with sipdroid) and it works amazingly well, even with TCP selected for transport.

Audio quality is spectacular, best of any sip client I've tried (about all including built in GB). Only downside is iPhone 3G is sluggish on iOS 4.2.1 and backgrounder running. Either way I'm sad to say this has been my best sip experience and it's not been Android. Here's hoping Acrobits ports Groundwire to Android.

Edit: other downside is Groundwire is a $10 app. Worth it, though.

Update 3: They deleted my account again. I tried to setup my account again, but the gtalk trunk is missing. Boooohoooo. Back to Sipgate.

tytytytyttytyttyttytty omg thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!! omg this is what i needed now my phone is working again

can someone share their settings for 'inbound' and 'outbound' call routing under pbxes?

my outbound is '0 gtalk', which is set to route name=gtalk and trunk sequence = gtalk/xxxx@gmail.com

the inbound is 'gtalk', which is set to trunk = gtalk and extension = sipdroid 200

I think my inbound was initially set to just '/', when I accidently deleted it. Now I don't know how to get it back.

Thanks to WilberFan1 and jj2me - i went through your same process and now my T Mobile Dell Streak7 has the SipDroid/GVoice/Pbxes.org all work correctly - Thanks you So much for being so detailed in the process.

I am now unable to receive calls to my cell phone when my Google Number is dialed. It rings once and then hangs-up.

If I UNcheck Google Voice -> Settings -> Phones -> Forward to Google Chat , then the phone WILL ring properly when calling the Google Number.

Does that mean something is configured improperly at pbxes, or...??

WilberFan1 - did you resolve this - just interested incase i come across this.
Got mine working today.
I have Google Voice -> Settings -> Phones -> Forward to Google Chat - the check is turned on. I went into the 'Edit' button and then advanced setting on my other phones listed and ensured they did not have direct access to the voicemail - as i was testing the calls using my att mobile, everytime i called the google number it went to voicemail, so i turned that off.

Inbound should be '/'
You can just add a new one - give it no name, trunk=blank, callerID is blank - every is blank exept the set destination below
Set Destination for Regular Hrs and after Hrs and pick the 'Extension' = <xxxxx> mine says 'SipDroid <200>' from a drop down list

Your outbound seems fine.

Just in case anyone is interested. I posted an app to the market that does Google Voice VoIP. It's called GrooVe IP. It's $2.99. Link is http://market.android.com/details?id=com.gvoip

Thanks snrb. Finally, you got around to writing the app that I had been wating for 8 months. I purchased it, I am able to make out going calls fine. But incoming calls are not coming in.

As I guessed it may be due to the pbxes settings, so I disabled pbxes by changing my password. Now although I get the incoming call in gmail on the computer but not on the app on phone.

Any ideas what could be it?

Saw that you figured this out already, but just for other people in this thread the problem is that if you have gmail logged on computer the call gets forwarded to it instead of the app.

snrb - I purchased your GrooVe IP app, and when I first tried it, it seemed to work. But the last few days when I call someone, they can't hear me at all. Sometimes I can hear them, sometimes not. But it seems like they can never hear me. I didn't change any settings, so what's going on? I'm using a Nexus S.

Also, why is GrooVe IP changing my Google Talk status message? How do I disable this?

Hi,

I believe a change that went into version 1.0.5 caused the call quality problems on certain phones. We've put up an update that has resolved those issues. Can you try with version 1.0.10 that's on the market now and see if things are back in working order? Please let me know. You can email me at snrb.labs@gmail.com with any problems you're having. I wasn't actively monitoring this thread, sorry for the slow reply.

Thanks for this information. I had the green dot and registration was fine but just silence when trying to make a call. (I had not tried in a while). I logged into the pbxes.com website and followed the above directions and it is working again.

Morning all,

Ok I got inbound and outbound calling working via Sipdroid on my Incredible, and thanks to all of you for helping me navigate the configuration.

Now the question I have is when I am receiving an inbound call that I would like it to not only call my Sipdroid/Incredible, but also call my home phone and work phone. Sort of like a find me/follow me arrangement. Is it as easy as checking the forwarding options I want to use in Google Voice? Right now I have everything forwarding to Google Chat only!!

Second I would like to use the voicemail service of my Incredible as the de facto vm service. How would I configure this to happen? Do I need to shutoff something in Google Voice?

Thanks,
Steve

One other thing on this....

I am noticing that a Wifi connection tends to have alot of dropout. Is anyone else noticing this? I am using the HD codec, so am wondering if that could be the issue too.

*Psst*
*hey Buddy *
Over here.. Got 4 Bux?
GrooVe IP doesn't need all the clickign and changing..

I haven't tried it quite yet but it's on my list especially because i just sold my iphone that was used as my GV VOIP phone.. It gets good reviews.. and looks like the developer is actively updating it.

I now use SIPGate with the app CSIPSimple. Then I use GVCallback to phone my SIPGate #.

Thanks for the reply. It sounds somewhat difficult, but it certainly sounds like it works for you. Can you explain in more detail, or is there a link you suggest that might provide some instruction?

If I am out of the USA, can I still call the US for free like sipdroid?
