Root freezes on cache restore/back up

has anyone else run into the phone freezing and not going any further when trying to make a back up or restoring a rom? as soon as it comes to restoring cache or backing up cache it does nothing. i can no longer use cwm to back up or even flash to a new zip. if i try to flash to new i can not get past factory reset, becuase when it tires to format cachee it just stops. this all happened after i did the official 2.2 from the metro site after not being able to get data working from pg's 2 roms. now all id like is to get back on cm7 and im on metro's 2.2 and have no way of making a back up or flashing to a new rom. can anyone give some assistance?

so either im the only one having a prob here or im the only one who has done the 2.2 update then tried to flash back. i wonder what is is about the cache issue thats stopping everything.

Dumb question... Is it rooted? If not maybe try rooting it..
