Root Freezing and more

[Optional]Are You rooted & which Rom: Yes. Oxygen -2.3.2-Bravo + revolutionary HBOOT

My desire is playing up constantly. It randomly freezes (sometimes with the screen on, sometimes with the screen off). Lot's of things seem to cause this: end of a phone call; right after boot in the launcher; sometimes when I go to power it on from sleep; turning airplane mode off from being on for a few hours...list is endless.

Once its frozen and I have to rip the battery out, put it back in, it'll freeze once on the home screen, rip the battery out again....50% of the time it might start working again after 3 tries. Other 50% of the time I have to run chkdsk on the sd card, which is guaranteed to get it going again.

My setup is fat partition + ext2. With apps and dalvik cached moved to ext2.

One thing to note it runs perfectly without a sd-card present. I've tested the sdcard itself with hwtool and it seems legit. Had this problem with my previous sd card.

Any ideas what is going on? previous cyanogenmod rom had the same problem and the oxygen rom I had before that also had this problem.

Any ideas?

If the problem is with the card I guess you could try repartitioning the card:

* take a nandroid backup

* back up everything on the fat32 partition to a computer. Make sure you copy "hidden" files and folders (names starting with "." ), and in particular make sure you copy the nandroid to your computer.

* repartition the card. Probably best to reformat and redo from scratch. Use ext4 rather than ext2 (ext3 at minimum). Most importantly, use GParted to do the partitioning (there are instructions in the All Things Root Guide sticky post in the Desire All Things Root forum). If you are using 4Ext recovery you could try with that, but on no account use MiniTool - if you originally used that there's a good chance that's the cause of the problem.

* once repartitioned, copy data back to the fat32 partition. Then boot into recovery and restore the nandroid - that will restore your apps to the ext partition.

Good luck :)

P.S. I should move this thread to All Things Root, but I'm on my phone at the moment, so will do it later if nobody else does in the meanwhile :)

Thanks. I've used GParted more times than I like to think to repartition the card. Never made any difference for more than a day or two. Although I'm not quite sure how I ended up with a ext2 partition instead of ext3 this time lol

I've got a theory that the data/dalvik to sdcard hack really doesn't work well with desire roms. Seeing as I'm s-off i've decided to customize the MTD partitions, stick dGB rom on there and move everything back to internal...worth a go I guess.

I had random freezes with Oxygen 2.3.2. There was no partition on my sd card though. I've changed my card because I needed a bigger one rather than because I thought it was a cause & I've changed ROM several times since without reoccurence.

There are several references on xda threads for ROMs based on Oxygen 2.3.2. (OxyZM, Nick's phone) that state "Disable black screen after call issue". Could this be related?

Could be related, although I think that's another issue entirely. They think the problem with the black screen after call was due to the proximity sensor not working correctly. But who really knows eh?

Well it's been over 12 hours since using dGB rom and no freezes/black screens. Looking good! Also dam it's fast, much faster than oxygen or cyanogenmod
