Fring video calling to Sprint EVO! (with Skype support)

Saw this on another site this morning. Thought I'd share the good news!!!!!

Android phones like the HTC EVO 4G and Samsung Galaxy S now include front facing cameras, but there are not many apps that take advantage of this exciting new feature. Google has yet to add support for dual cameras to the Android SDK and app developers have been working with the carriers to support these new devices.
Sprint chose Qik as their streaming video app to include with the EVO 4G, but the current version loaded on the phone does not support video calling yet. I had been trying to gain access to the latest beta to test this new feature out, but I’ve had no luck so far.
Thankfully Fring has stepped up to the table and updated their popular messaging application to support front facing cameras and video calling. The app just went live so I have not had the chance to test it with other EVO users, but that is on the agenda for my next YouTube video I film.
Fring has yet to update their blog with additional details, so check back later for a full report. We will test video calling over 3G, 4G, and WiFi.

+1 for Walter Bishop. I knew I wasn't the only person who clicked this topic thinking the phone must of been in the season finale last week!

I'm sure Skype is busy working on an application.

Cellphone video conferencing is the future for sure, give it a few years and even the dumb phones will have forward facing cameras. The carriers need to step in and define a protocol for video transport (or does something like this already exist?). SIP can serve as a messaging layer but I have yet to see a standards body step up and try to define a full specification. There just doesn't seem to be a standard way to transmit video/voice over packet networks. A bunch of 3rd party apps just won't suffice, it needs to be built right into the network.

I think I figured it out. The person on the other end simply needs a skype client on their PC and I initiate the video call from fring for android using skype as an add on. Right?

The Evo also brings you wealth, prosperity, and gets you laid. Unfortunately, it is also 500% more likely to impregnate your wife than you are... but that works well in case of divorce (you save tons on child support).

Better not let your wife near the EVO or she might get pregnant via skype video chat. On second thought, what's her number?

I hope it's not gonna be the same thing like when that new browser came out and Hulu.com worked on it, then hulu.com blocked it.

Can't remember the name of the browser though, I thought is was dolphin-hd?

Edit:

Hey biles you got any kind of review coming.

I'm testing out the battery life today. I might do a full write-up tomorrow.

On topic, I just realized this was Fring, not the Skype app. Just downloaded and tested, and it works! :D

Fring isn't recognizing 4G as internet connection. Only working over 3G.
Think I'll contact their support staff ASAP

My Bad. Updated to latest version of Fring from Marketplace, and it is working with 4G! ver 2.1.0.6
