Root From a hardboot, to a softboot, to rooted and Cognition 5

After having struggled with Serendipity and its bugs for far too long, I decided to flash a new ROM. Looking through the threads over at xda, had me looking at a couple, then I noticed Cog had upgraded to a Gingerbread ROM. Now, I don't know if you've ever used Cognition, but its typically the most stable ROM.

Unfortunately, I opened up the wrong Odin and tried to flash. It got to the reboot part and just shut down. Wouldn't respond to buttong pushes, not even the power button alone. Tried popping the battery, waiting... popping it back in and booting into D/L mode. Again... nothing. So I start doing more reading and everything I read... says if it won't even do anything; Computer won't recognize it, won't respond to the power button... it is HARD bricked. Which means, you're doing a RMA. Not something I want to deal with.

Finally I decide to say screw it, and by goodness its either going to boot, or its going out the window. After 1/2 hour of trying; pulling battery, reinserting, hold volume down and power, release power... FINALLY, D/L mode. Ironically, at this point... my eyes decided they didn't have the strength to keep my eyelids in an alert position... so off to bed, to get a fresh start. This morning, got up... 1st thing, back in front of the computer and phone.

I am now running a fresh, clean... no lag, no FCs Gingerbread. No bullshit of Serendipity and its many bugs.

Morale of the Story: You might think its hard bricked... KEEP TRYING!

The wrong ODIN was the problem, you are lucky you did not Hard brick it, lol. 3 button ODIN and Gingerbread Boot-loaders is a recipe for disaster. Reason being, the 3 button does not flash both of the Boot-loader files needed and so it mismatched Froyo and GB BL's.

I have had a similar problem like that before and for me to get it back to life I had to pull the battery and hold the power button for 15 sec.......Insert battery .....then it came back to life.

Glad to see you resurrected :)

I just flashed Cog5 and so far it has been smoother than Serendipity VII, WiFi worked immediately.

Unfortunately, I had to wipe Cog and go back to Serendipity. I flashed Cog 3 times (from full wipe/restore to fresh install) and it repeatedly had issues with several resident programs. The most annoying, was the market icon. Every time I clicked on it, it would say it wasn't installed. Yet, if I went into Applications, sure enough... there it was.

Not tremendously happy with going back to Serendipity... but at least to its credit, I'm not get the HORRID memory allocations and lag. Now if I can get my damn Swype to work again.
