How can I update to Froyo?

Do Not Download this.

You say you have a rooted phone (SuperUser does indeed indicate this), once rooted you shouldn't try and download and install OTA Upgrades

Do a little search on here first and then decide which advice to follow ;)

I hope he doesn't mind me copying this (It will only save him helping you if you do install the OTA :D) below is a section of SURoot's Guide. Even though your phone is root I suggest you find a post by him then read the guide in his signature.

Can I still receive OTA updates?

No. Most custom ROMS block out this feature, but if you have rooted your existing rom, you may still get the option to install OTA. PLEASE DO NOT!!! You need to disable the setting that checks for updates. OTA updates often cannot be installed, but sometimes they appear to work. However this can lead to huge issues in the future so I beg you, please do not try to install one.

I bought it from ebay so i don't know which method was used for rooting and which custom Rom has been installed

I have read SUroot's rooting guide

http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/221212-faq-rooting-updated-24-02-11-a.html

I have rooted phone ( It has superuser permission appication ) and when I entered to Hboot and then Recovery and it has Clockworkmod Recovery method

Does that mean UnrEvoked method was used for rooting?

Please find information when I eneted Hboot(turn on the phone with the back button held down. Release the back button after about 1 second. The version information will be displayed at the top of the screen next to the word HBOOT, ) below:

Bravo PVT3 Ship S-On
HBoot 0.83.0001
MicroP-051d
Touch Panel-SYNT0101
Radio-4.08.00.09

Q1)I want to install Android 2.2 ( Custom Rom 2.2), Which Custom ROM is best for Android 2.2

Q2)I don't need Gold card as I already have rooted phone?

Q3) What is the difference betweeen Sense ROM and Custom Rom

Is it Sense Rom developed by HTC and custom are developed by open source developers

In the SUroot's Rooting Thread, there is section "How do I flash a custom Rom", Step 2 : do all your backups

When I do backup using clockwordmod recovery, will get backup of custom ROM currently installed

Q4)If I am not able to install custom ROM, can I restore my phone with previous ROM

q5) How can I check which Rom is installed?

Q6) Nandroid will back up previous ROM?

Sorry for lots of question...I just want to make sure that I do right thing before doing something with my phone

Would expect so.

Q1)I want to install Android 2.2 ( Custom Rom 2.2), Which Custom ROM is best for Android 2.2

Do you want HTC sense? Leedroid, Teppic74's rooted stock, aurax t sense, insertcoin (last one is from Desire HD its nce)

Q2)I don't need Gold card as I already have rooted phone?

Yes, for recovery purposes. Your phone may have been branded.

Q3) What is the difference betweeen Sense ROM and Custom Rom

Custom roms can be both sense based roms or aosp (android open source project). As opposed to stock roms which are unrooted and all htc sense based

Q4)If I am not able to install custom ROM, can I restore my phone with previous ROM

So long as you did a nandroid backup

q5) How can I check which Rom is installed?

settings>About phone

Q6) Nandroid will back up previous ROM?

It will backup any rom that is currently installed and can restore any previous rom so long as you backed it up and still have that backup;

Yes I want HTC sense. Which one you will recommend for Android 2.2
Yes, for recovery purposes. Your phone may have been branded.

I am using pre paid service ( Pay as you go Rogers) How can we check whether its branded or not

I can recover using Clockword recovery method ( Hboot->Recovery->ClockWorkmod receovery method)

settings>About phone

Here is what I see after settings->My phone

Please find the Software Info below:-
Firmware version 2.1-Update 1
Baseband Version 32.41.00.32u_4.08.00.09
Kernel Version 2.6.29-e5576724 htc-kernel@18-2#1
Build Number 1.29.661.1 CL198499 release keys
Software number 1.29.661.1
Browser Version Webkit 3.1

How can I know which custom ROM it has?

It will backup any rom that is currently installed and can restore any previous rom so long as you backed it up and still have that backup;
In this thread http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/176110-nandroid-backup.html

You have mentioned Nandroid is a backup OF the 512 internal memory. Including the system and data partition. It therefore would not fit on it.

I have internal memory 512 MB ( check description in #post 1) ...Should I do it?

I talked to my seller he said that It's a one click system update that takes 2 mins to update to Froyo 2.2 but above you guys mentioned not to do the updates

What should i do?

Its a back up of the internal memory which is stored on the SD card, not in the internal memory.

Please ignore the seller and the first reply and don't install.

Sorry can't recommended a custom rom as I rooted to get rid of sense and have use AOSP based Rome.

Thanks Mike...I want to know what is installed in my phone which android version and ROM

If I am installing any other back up application, it may create conflict!

looking forward help from experts before I do anything with my phone
