From the Nexus 4 to the Droid 3...

I have a sd card (Is this a requirement when rooting and romming?) and I have 11.35 gb of internal available space .

Ok, great. That should be plenty for one ROM slot, even for two or three, if that's what you really want to do.

To install Minimoto:

• As I said before, copy the minimoto zip file to internal storage or the SD card. It can be in a folder if you wish. Do not unzip the file.
• Power off the phone down
• Turn the phone on. When you see the Safetrap screen, press the menu key. This should start Safestrap recovery. If it does not - sometimes it doesn't, and the phone just boots normally - power off the phone, slide open the keybaord, and power on while holding down the "M" key. A white text menu will open - use the VolDn key to scroll down to "BP Tools" and then press VolUp to select it. This will also start Safestrap
• At the Safestrap menu, which is a series of boxes with text, select "Backup". You can choose "cache" if you want, and choose ".android_secure" it is more than 0 MB. Choose whether you want the backup stored on external SD or internal storage at the bottom. Slide the "swipe to backup" at the bottom to backup. This should take a few minutes. When it is done, hit the "Back", and the the "Home" control in the lower left of the display.
• Hit "Boot options"
• Hit "ROM-Slot-2" (I suggest saving ROM-Slot-1. The Cyanogen/AOKP builds that run ICS and JB for now run only in ROM-Slot-1.)
• It will ask to create a data partition size. The Droid 3 stock phone has a 2 GB data partition. If you install a lot of apps, that's probably a good choice. If you have hardly any apps, maybe 1 GB is good enough.
• After choosing the data partition size, hit the button "Create ROM slot" at the bottom. This will take a few minutes - longer than the backup.
• This will bring you back to the slot selection screen again. You'll notice that at the top it now says "ROM Slot: rom-slot-2". This is what safestrap will boot on the next boot. Now we need to flash Minimoto. Hit the "Home" icon on the bottom left of the display. (Actually, the home capacitive button works, too.)
• Because this is a new ROM slot which was never installed, there is not data to wipe. However, if you ever install another ROM in this slot, you would go to the "Wipe" button, then "Factory reset". It won't hurt to do this. It will ask you to "swipe to wipe" at the bottom. (Do not wipe "External storage" or "Internal storage" unless you want to lose all of your photos, etc., and ROM slots.) Hit home when done.
• Hit "Install"
• Navigate to where the Minimoto zip file is and tap the file name.
• At the next screen, swipe to confirm flash
• As long as there are no errors, hit the button "Reboot system"
• (If there are errors, go home. Tap "Boot options". Tap "Stock ROM". Tap "Activate". Tap home. Tap "Reboot". Tap either "System" or "Power off" - you'll go back to stock.)

Otherwise, you'll be asked to setup Minimoto after boot. You'll also notice when you see the Safestrap screen at boot that it is now "Enabled".

Let me know how this works/if you get any errors...

Okay I have the minimoto zip in my phone's internal. Verified with the files app. I read something about making a rom slot in SS? I'm not sure how to do this so...

Wow what a difference! Can't believe I did without errors. Lol. My first time ever rooting and romming. Now I see why people do it. I haven't gotten to even setting the thing up but the difference I feel already is amazing compared to what I had before. Seriously, I wasn't sure how I was going to cope with having a Droid 3 after using certain other devices. Playing around with swiping it, and moves a lot more smoothly already. And the screen doesn't look all washed out anymore: not sure what that was about. Anyway, thanks a lot. I don't see any of the bloatware... is this automatic with a new rom? I wished I had backed up my apps some type of way so I wouldn't have to re-download them. Overall, though, I can't complain. Again, thanks a lot. It wasn't as hard as I thought - I guess most of it was just remember the steps

Only one thing so far that seems somewhat amiss. On the lock screen, because the Verizon international sim is not, it says No sim and emergency calls only. However, I was able to dial out and am using data without any problems so I'm not sure what that is about.

Ok, thanks. That's funny - I actually did those steps and creating the slot activated it for me. Anyway, I'll update my post above for completeness.

That no sim error sounds familiar. I'll see if I can figure out the solution...

Well, that is one reason that many developers ROM a device, so you generally do see less, but, no, it's not a given. This ROM is called Minimoto for a reason - the developer was trying to strip out every possible thing that he could, and he did a great job. One thing - you may want to install a software keyboard. The ROM ships without one, since there is a hardware keyboard on the device. Here are a couple, if you don't already have one:

I'm not sure that there is a solution to the "no SIM" message on the lockscreen. But, like you said, it works...

Maverick also displays a "no SIM" message on the lockscreen. I'm sure the phone works anyway.

Okay, been busy these last few days, but yes I think the no sim error will be there regardless as when I got the phone, I took out the Verizon international sim when I activated it with PP. I just didn't understand why it is saying Emergency Calls only. No biggie, though. Thanks a ton for the onscreen keyboard suggestions as it has been becoming increasingly bothersome not having one. Overall, for now, I'm pleased with Minimoto. It has given me no trouble as of now.

The Droid3 is my first smartphone, and I managed to flash MiniMoto (via rootjunky's helpful youtube videos). But I didn't see any settings for mobile data off/on, roaming, etc. I'm using a prepaid carrier so I want to be able to limit data to wifi unless absolutely necessary. Is there such a setting, as on stock? I'm wondering if I'd be better off with the debloated stock script, I really just wanted to get rid of the bloatware, but I was afraid I'd brick my phone. Would de-bloating stock affect settings? I was surprised those settings weren't included with minimoto, unless I'm missing something?

Also, if I wanted to delete MiniMoto, I just go into SS3 recovery and hit delete and that would clear out the Rom slot or delete it entirely so I would have to create a new one should I decide to ever flash another rom? Is there anything else I would have to do? I guess I am a bit an*l about having stuff on my phone I'm not using. Thanks for any advice.

There maybe an app in the play store for your carrier, I'm still on Verizon's unlimited data so never needed to watch data, and never spent much time on minimoto. doogald may have better advice on that.

If you delete rom slot, yes you will need to recreate a slot for a custom rom, but you can just install a new rom over the old, you will need to wipe data and cache.

If using SafeStrap 3, you can just create a 2nd rom slot, and try a different rom, or just select stock rom (it's still there waiting), as the rom that boots.

thanks, themib. I wanted to try eclipse rom, but from what I've read it's incompatible with Safestrap 3.05. I'd want something lightweight and stable where everything works and that doesn't worsen battery life so I'm thinking I might try that debloat script. I would love to hear doogald's opinion as well.

Thank you, themib, will try installing this today! I also noticed that youtube videos won't play on my phone, either I get an error or it bumps me back to the app drawer. I don't know if it's due to minimoto, ss3, the root or a setting that needs to be changed.

it's not root or safestrap, could be minimoto, could be version of youtube, or missing Flashplayer

Generally Gapps are include, except CM (CyanogenMod) Miui, and Paranoid roms
Android is open source, but Google Apps are Google's, to protect themselves from copyright issues, some devs separate rom from Gapps.

Thanks for the info. There's an app that says "Flash Player Settings" but no actual Flash app, not sure if it's the same.

I have a bigger problem, though, I can't boot into recovery mode. When I press the menu button at the safestrap startup screen it continues to load minimoto.

Powered off and on several times, took out battery, same result. When I press the volume buttons, choose Recovery, I get the screen with the white triangle and the exclamation point. If I choose normal boot, still boots into minimoto, ignoring menu press. I didn't have any issues with SS before I installed minimoto.

Would using Pete's Restore to Gingerbread 2.3.4 (MotoBlur 5.6.890 OTA from Verizon) work? I'm on 5.7.906. I did use it successfully to unroot the phone the first time, but that was before the .906 update.

unrooting will not help.
getting to stock recovery is 2 step process
when you triangle, !, and andy, press both volume buttons, then just select reboot.

It's starting BP Tools from the startup menu. I *think* you do this by starting the phone with the keyboard open and pressing the "X" key. If it's not the "X" key, it's the "M" key. So, hold the key while you power on; when you see a menu start, you can release the keyboard key.

You'll see a menu with the last option that says something about "BP Tools". Start that option and it will boot to Safestrap.

It's been a while since I ran Minimoto, but, as I recall, when you oull down the notification shade, there are toggle icons on the shade at the top. Scroll them to the right and you should see an icon with two parallel arrows, one pointing up and one pointing down - that toggles mobile data off and on.

Roaming is definitely missing, but there is an app that you can install to control it: [FIX][APK][ZIP] DroidFroam - Manage data roaming ( force data roaming always ON ) - xda-developers

Well, @thingonaspring developed Minimoto to be as small as possible. I'm not sure why; maybe it was just a personal challenge. That's why a lot of these things are missing - he made the ROM the way he wanted it.

Yep, that's one way - you can just delete the ROM slot and create it again. Of course, you can always do a wipe data/factory reset and install another ROM into the sam slot and save a lot of time.

Ok, that sounds familiar. I just always did it with the keyboard. In fact, Safestrap starting up was so hit-or-miss with me that I just did it this way every time I wanted to start it.
