Front Facing Camera Reversing Pictures

Is this normal, or do I have a setting that needs tweaking? All of the pics taken with the front camera are turned around 180

Hi Kamau,

There is a setting to flip pictures. If (when the front camera is selected) you click the cog in the corner, scroll down the menu you will find 'Save images as flipped' turn this to off.

If this does not solve the problem, can I clarify: 1. Are the images flipped or rotated? 2. Are the images wrong in the preview, or just when they are saved?

Another cause could be that you are holding the phone at an odd angle, or shaking it as you take the photo (the phone uses an accelerometer to determine which way upto save the photo). If this is the case I would expect it to be intermittant. The accelerometer and gyroscope can be recalibrated in settings-->display-->Horizontal and gyroscope calibration (in Android 4.0 ICS).

Hope this helps

It's not flipped, you are seeing the flipped version (mirror image) when you look at the screen while taking the picture. The actual picture is not flipped. They do this to make it easier to take self portraits. Makes it easier because when you see you are off one side of the screen, it's easier to move back in frame because it's the same direction. If the camera showed what the actual picture would look like, while you were taking it, it would be awkward.

It's designed with video chat in mind hence the reversed image by default. As others have said there's a setting to fix that.

Thanks to you all.
I guess I just wasn't paying attention, but if I was looking at myself through a normal camera and snapped the picture, it would be correct as they are shown on the screen.

Just a quick follow up - if you take a picture of some text, it makes it clear. The text is backwards on the screen before you snap the pic, then in the actual pic, the text is oriented correctly.
