Froyo 2.2 Canada!

does this have call display and message center?

That's an extra $10 - $12 bucks depending how big you want your voicemail inbox to be

$10 - call display, message center express (5 slots 1 minute long each)
$12 - call display, message centerl (25 slots 5 minute long each)

Don't forget to add tax on top of it. (12%)

nope, that's an additional 12$, or 15$ if you also want 500 outgoing texts (for people who arent in your fab 10 and unlimited incoming text. The plan IS fantastic, it is however a student plan and only available to new customers with a 3 year agreement (for Bell service, not that particular plan). Go to a Bell store with a student number and you're good to go.

This is getting ridiculous.

There's no excuse why Bell can't give an ETA or at least a timeframe.

I understand that they want to install their bloatware on the phone but at least give some sort of a timeframe.

If there is anything positive I can say about this experience is that I truly now realize how much better Telus is in supporting their products...

Please stop hijacking the thread, this is supposed to be a thread FROYO 2.2 CAANAAAADAAAA

That said !!! I went to a bell store, the store manager told me it would'nt a surprise that 2.2 froyo would become available in the beginning of 2011 in january more precisely...... if that is true... ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Finally got through to Bell's server and still nothing. (Kept getting cannot connect all night)

Come on Bell at least give us an ETA on the update on your site!

Seriously if you can't make it this year, then fine be like Motorola on Telus and say QTR 1 2011. I can live with delayed concrete information from "the source". Or even when the Desire on Telus delayed Froyo till October fine. Yes it came out before midnight 11/01 but it made the deadline. (And Froyo is amazing on that device)

By all means I don't want to see Froyo on the SGS till it's completely ready and tested, but at least put a status on the homepage "Testing in progress" or ETA 1QTR 2011.

It's not like I don't know what it's like to write software. I dealt with those pressures for one of the largest shipping companies in the world and we always made our deadlines known to our consumers and updated if we needed more time.

It's just common courtesy and professionalism to the consumer...

In another forum a Bell employee stated that Ontario customers would start seeing the updated on Nov 15, BC on Nov 17, then the rest of Canada on the 29th.

I have no idea if this is true. I am in BC and not seeing any updates as of yet.

Samsung Canada We’d like to acknowledge the tremendous interest in the Froyo (Android 2.2) upgrade for Galaxy S series smartphones in Canada. We are working diligently to provide a tested and secure upgrade experience in Canada. Android 2.2 will be released for Vibrant from Bell and Captivate from Rogers in mid-December, and for the Fascinate from TELUS in early 2011. We’ll post further details as they become available.

are you kidding me?

This is my first Samsung smartphone and had heard about Samsung being slow with upgrades but never knew they sucked this bad at it. Lucky i have no issues with my SGS on 2.1 so waiting for Froyo isn't that bad.

okay ....thanks for feed back about mid December part (wont hold my breath tho), also might i add gingerbread well be out soon...correct? so heck with fro-yo give use gingerbread or these samsung 1 GHz so called hummingbirds wont be capable anything after 2.2 ??? never see gingerbread man 2.3 these vibrant

That is the biggest problem with smart phones... Your dependant on the carrier to come out with updates... And they quickly loose interest in supporting the people that have already paid and locked in on a term...

I have had my Gal S for a month now and let me tell you, the constant freezing is driving me nuts. Another month to wait??? grrr

I rooted my phone, and so far it works like a champ with Ryanza's OCLF.

Bell GPS Fix for Bell Vibrant (Tested and works every time)

found this to fix GPS problem on another thread.

if your phone still freezes up a lot, try this:

i went to a bell store in vancouver and the attendant said that they got temporary system fix. he took my phone.. did something and now it doesn't freeze anymore. it had gotten to the point where it would freeze 7-8 times a day, and i had to remove the battery and restart every time. after this fix, no problems. maybe give bell a call? (good luck with that)

Dear :

Thank you for your inquiry.

SaskTel is working with Samsung to provide our customers with an approved v2.2 of the Android operating system. Here is a summary of the steps involved in this process:

1) Google will release Android version 2.2. (While the developers released this in May 2010, it was not ready for commercial distribution).
2) Samsung will provide, in conjunction/development with SaskTel, an approved version of v2.2. on Samsung's website.
Note, the software is custom developed per each model, and in most cases per carrier.
SaskTel is working with Samsung to have the latest software made available for SaskTel customers.
3) Customers will go to Samsung's website and download a PC application that is then used when connecting their wireless device to their PC in order to download Android v2.2 to their phone.

Timing is still to be delivered and we are awaiting directions from Samsung on what the actual process and instructions will be for our customers. This information will be updated and communicated accordingly.

Thank you for using www.sasktel.com.

For Bell, i think it should be sooner then SaskTel, seems that SaskTel wants a branded firmware. On the other hand My Bell Phone is unbranded, meaning the folks at Samsung wont have to make a version just for them !!! I stick to mid-december its 3 weeks away not a big deal, Im just afraid that they post pone arriving dude date just like they did with the european version. My 2 cents, is that its propably going to be delivered early January 2011, because you really think people are going to work around just for us in the holiday time, i would even say ending of January at best
