Froyo 2.2 & DivX

Hi Guys, just a quick question. FOr those that have rooted and installed the 2.2 update, has anyone discovered if it supports DivX movies?. COuld be a deciding factor to me rooting or waiting.

FroYo doesn't have built in divx support, but you can install media players that will. I use Rockplayer and it plays 700mb AVI files without any problems. Nice and smooth.

Who knows, I don't think the program will stop working after the 15th July. Better be quick if you want to download it.

I too use Rockplayer but was lead to believe that Froyo would bring DivX support. was looking forward to streaming movies from my home network. oh well.....

As I understand it the issue isn't froyo. The OS can support divx, its the default media player that can't.

I think the rumor was that the desire would get divx support added along with 720p. We're getting 720p in the leaked froyo rom but I assume no divx support. It might be added to the rom still before official release or might come later - I wouldnt count on it though. Rockplayer means this isnt as important anymore as it is, and hopefully rockplayer will continue to improve and make the default player completely redundant in time.
