FroYo 2.2 for Legend

I can confirm that the Froyo OTA update is now available for the asia region legends.
My phone picked up
OTA_Legend_Froyo_s_hTC_Asia_TW_3.15.709.3-2.06.709.3_release_160364d6o5a2er5k3kbifl.zip
Last night.

After downloading and reboot, the installer only made it about 25% of the way before hitting an error and hanging on the red triangle with exclamation mark. Tried the process twice and same thing. Anyone else having issues with the Asia region update or can offer any advice?

Just when I said I'll root the phone, the next day 2.2 came out.... lol.... I dint have much problem updating. Mine was stuck at the "unlocking sim and setting up your phone", after unplugging from the computer, it continued with out any other problem. My guess is that tasker was preventing the screen from locking when charging that prevented the phone from continuing.

Very happy with 2.2, except for the live wallpaper.... eats too much cpu.... and still haven't figure out how to use the voice command except for web searches.

Hi there,

I'm new here... my girlfriend has a HTC Legend on A1 (Vodafone) here in Austria... we just upgraded to Froyo 2.2 and everything seems to have gone pear shaped...

Experiencing all the same things as other people seem to be - lag time, apps slowly loading, updating/downloading from market terrible, sms writing painfully slow, etc, etc.

Have tried lots of different things, but nothing is helping. Do we just have to wait for an official update from A1/Vodafone? Or is there a way of downgrading back to 2.1?

Thanks for your help!

It happened to me once, after rebooting the phone (press and hold the power button and select power off) everything seems to be ok. Or if it doesnt work, maybe do a factory reset.

Yeah, have tried the restart a few times now... seems better for a few hours, then all slows down again.

Am hesitant to do factory reset, as I don't want to lose all the settings, etc that my girlfriend has customised... is there a way to do a reset where some things are retained?

Turn auto sync off. That really slows things down.
Also don't put apps on your SD card. That is a killer too.

..turn on USB Debugging... I don't know exactly what its for or why it works.. but it does.. All of my 'lag' problems and the system's erratic behavior stopped once i did that.. its been running fast and smooth ever since (going on 3 days now)... Settings>Applications>Development>USB debugging... someone suggested it in one of the forums and said it worked for them .. I tried it and sho nuff'.. it did for me too!

So just now I downloaded & installed the 2.2 update on my legend. the horrible thing is, the phone part isn't working at all. I don't know why but when the phone starts after installing, it goes to the usual lock screen saying NO SERVICE while in fact I inserted my usual sim card. I think it's the problem with the phone part because right after booting there goes the notification of whether to force close or wait on the phone. I tried wait but nothing happens.... anybody know how to fix this?I've tried to inserted my other sim card with the same result, no signal at all (no service). any help would be appreciated !

Yes. I got a big problem with Froyo. My problem is slow, auto restart when I try to transfer 14MB file via bluetooth, HTC Weather widget does not show information, auto restart during I recharge battery, sometime it does not show my installed application in download page of market, and it does not work well with widget locker (it can not use any buttom to unlock). I do hard rest as HTC recommend and reinstall all application again. Now it run faster but the other problems still does not solve. So I like to goback 2.1. So sad.

because it's so ******ed it might be under warranty. although to go back to 2.1 you need root don't you? so maybe yours has no warranty...

Hello friends,
I have few issues with my Legend after official Froyo update which are:

- switching between screens is pain in the ass, its much more laggy,
- browser became very Nokia-like which means it has LAG and also zooming & scrolling is a very sad story
- typing in the browser environment makes the keypad laggy

At first I said "hey maybe its because i need to factory reset the phone" but it didnt help :( Does anyone know how to officially downgrade phone from Froyo 2.2 to Enclair 2.1? I have never rooted the phone, it was only updated first with the official update 2.1-update1 and then Froyo 2.2.

I would really really be glad if someone could help me to downgrade my phone to 2.1 system as it used to be when I bought it.

I may sound a little bit dramatic but i really get anoyed by the lag, afterall this is not Nokia phone.

Thanks for any help in advance,
Gregor from Slovenia/EU

exactly the same here. my phone is directly from htc no vendor lock in. after approximately one week the phone start to show lags, you have to wait lon long seconds to answer a call or open anything simple. if the wifi or 3g is used everything takes 10+ seconds. it happened that the phone was running out of battery within 3 hours so it seems to me there is some process got stuck.

this was my last android phone. i won't spend any money on such a piece of shit. i was using android from 1.6 but this is too much.

I upgraded to froyo a couple of days back and i've never been happier. It performs better than eclair.

For those having lagging issues, there might be an app hogging all cpu resource. try to find out what that is. Install an app that will allow you to monitor the cpu activity of each running app (e.g. system panel app).
I also have an app which shows me the current cpu activity, so i know when my cpu activity is very intense or its actually doing nothing. I would recommend jkApp. it resides onhe taskbar so u'll always be informed of cpu activity.

If your battery life drastically goes down to 3hrs, then most probably there's an app or process keeping your cpu very active. You might want to find out what that is. i think ts much simpler than downgrading your phone to 2.1

hence factory resetting :)

Let's share my experience upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2 yesterday.

I reside in Singapore, and upgraded OTA when prompted. Using a Legend bought from a local telco. Unrooted. Everything is out of the box.

Issues faced:
1. Did not give me Chinese text input capability. Instead, I got a Vietnamese and Thai text input which I have no use for at all.
2. No haptic feedback (even when it has been checked under Settings) when I use the QWERTY keyboard. Haptic feedback works fine when I need to unlock the phone so a mechanical issue is ruled out.
3. The Legend is supposed to have a function under Settings>Privacy>Back up data so that you can back up your whole phone settings.

Called and mailed HTC. Their only useless reply was software conflict, and do a hard reset (after backup of course but the call centre agent nearly got me to hard reset before doing a back up). I have to d/l an app called My Backup (get the 30 day free version) to backup all my settings and data first before I did a hard reset.

Hard reset and restoration took around 30 min. Not 100% restored but my main items are intact. Just got to get my office mail going again. Last wallpaper used is gone too. No lagginess felt. Apps switch quickly like under 2.1.

But, I got back my Chinese text input and haptic feedback when using the QWERTY keyboard.

The Back up data function under Settings>Privacy is not resolved though.

Seems to drain power more quickly but I got to monitor in for a couple more days before I can confirm.

@kxbc the settings>privacy is there, you got to use the search button and search for "privacy". I know its sucky, but at least its still there...

Btw... since you are in Singapore, can you download all of Google's apps? Such as 'translate of animals' just for fun, 'Google maps 5.0' and 'Gmail' also I cant update it to the latest version.
I stay in Malaysia and I cant download them, so Im wondering.

How do you search your phone? There is a "search" in Settings but it does not do anything muc when I click on it. Can you give a step by step guide?

I can't find "Translate of animals" in the Market.
I have d/l Google map 5.0. Works fine.
My "Gmail" is version 2.3. Not sure if that is the latest. I prefer the UI of the Yahoo! mail app.

I can access all (I think) paid and free apps in the Market. H/w, I have never tried d/ling any of the paid apps yet. My apps (~30) are currently free so far.

With 2.2, my battery life is a 1% decrease every hour on standby (without mobile network turned on). Based on what I had observed last night till this morning. Seems to be similar before I upgraded to 2.2.

we can't see all apps on the Market. for instance, Angry Birds wasn't available on the Legend for WEEKS!
I have Gmail version 2.3.2 it's no different though

I can see Angry Birds in the Market but I did not d/l it. D/l Angry Birds Season in Nov though (version 1.1.1). Boring game. I am addicted to "Word up".:D

Settings > Search > Searchable items > check what you want.
now you come to mention it, I can't find that backup thing either... weird. you should get Titanium backup or similar.
and get an appinstaller, then install apps from SD card
