Help Froyo 2.2 Help ASAP!?

Okay first of all Hi I'm new in this forum :P

Okay so I'm also completely new to Android, I have a Samsung Intercept from Virgin Mobile which I just upgraded to 2.2, it's not rooted or anything it's completely stock.

So I was checking videos of the LG Optimus V and saw the "Quick Settings" app and the "WiFi Hotspot" so I tried it and I didn't even see the "WiFi Hotspot" on 2.1 even after entering the Customize option. Now having 2.2 I do see that option but I can't change the name of the Hotspot, and it's password protected so I need help with that :/

Also now my texts, every single text shows the contacts picture not just the thread and then plain texts like I had in 2.1, it now shows the picture over and over on every text so how can I change that?

Thank you in advance :)

Is it grayed out so you can't select it? If you select hotspot it takes you to a new screen. You must enable hotspot to make changes. From there you can select configure hotspot to change the name. You'll see the security & password option. There's a checkbox to enable you to see the password. If you can see this screen but can't make changes then it might have been locked by your carrier.

As far as text display, that's the default. You can't hide the picture. The only other option is to get an SMS app to customize it according to your preference. Just be sure they can be trusted. You'll see the permissions the app needs when you install it.

I can select it I can turn it on and all but it does not give me the options to change the name or the password, it turns on and I can see it on my laptop but it has a password.

Is handcent sms trusted?

Once you enable hotspot, touch it again so it takes you to a new screen. Don't touch the on/off button. The options to change the name & password are there. It says configure wi-fi hotspot.

I don't know about handcent. Sorry.

It's on I enabled it and then touched it so I could access the options but it takes me to my "Wireless & network settings" and it only has "Airplane mode, Wi-Fi,Wi-Fi settings, Bluetooth, Bluetooth settings, VPN settings" it doesn't give me the options it gives my cousin on his Optimus V, I used a Samsung Intercept.

I see the same thing. I believe VM disables the hotspot functionality by default because they dont want you sharing your 3G data connection for $25 a month. If Im wrong, somebody please correct me because I really need hotspot functionality. Ideally, I would like to easily root my 2.2 Intercept and install Barnacle.

Anyone got any tips?

Thanks!

I don't think it's VM because it works on the LG Optimus V which is also from Virgin Mobile and it works perfectly, I don't wanna get the Optimus :/ but I don't wanna brick my phone trying to root it when I have no idea what I'm doing, no idea what a kernel is or anything, ABSOLUTELY new to android :/

Exactly - I should have been clearer. VM disables access to the hotspot by default but if you root the phone and install Barnacle , this will bypass that disablement. Probably whats taking place on the Optimus...

The Optimus isn't rooted and I would root it if I knew how :/ I also heard you can make it faster with some changes
