Froyo 2.2 on the Incredible?

I think we're gonna see 2.2 a lot sooner than you think. The press got the update already on Nexus One's (earlier than expected) and according to Google the next phones to get it are the Evo on Sprint and DInc on Verizon. We just need HTC to make the Sense UI compatible. I cant wait to see them make my DInc run faster, if it gets any faster it might just vanish into fat air!

I agree, the media has had copies of 2.2 software running on N1 phones for a few weeks now. It's easy to assume if these writers have been playing with it, major hardware partners (Read HTC and Motorola) have had access to the code for even longer. The only difference now is that now the code has gone "Gold" and they can make their changes to the final product. I would think HTC will roll out OTA update in 4-6 weeks. I don't believe that verizon will hold up the update as much as people believe. Verzion has been moving away from the "Control" that they used to have on the UI we used to see. I'm sure the major things verizon will check for are Stability, call quality, and wireless tethering.

Not really sure why everyone is rushing this, if HTC rush's this everyone is just going to complain how it doesn't run right, crash's yada yada yada. I would rather wait for a polished product rather than a Sense UI that doesn't take advantage of the new compiler.

It's not outdated i mean it still has very powerful hardware such as the snap dragon processor, now if it was released with hardware like the eris then maybe yes but this phone is no where near outdated.

Yes the N1 with 2.2 is going to rock but when the DI gets 2.2 it is going to rock and roll. Going to be like a steroid boost for the DI.

Though the N1 is nice, the better touch sensors and four times more extra (working) app storage is nice. Not to mention the 6.6gb of space :) And the fact the Tmo 3G coverage is weak anyways.

That all said, I can see it being months before we get the update from HTC.

u guys serious? I was hearing along the lines of Christmas 2010 (after HTC, Sense UI, and Verizon have their way with it)

Are you serious??? Pissed off because your phone is "outdated"? Dude...what do you do each time you buy a new car, tv, stereo, etc? Relax. The Dinc is a great phone with great features...and you'll get your 2.2 in the near future. If you're going to be upset because you don't always have the "latest and greatest", you're in for a lifetime of grief and disappointment.

not sure if you guys know there is a workaround that technically violates vzw TOS, that allows you to tether at no extra cost without pdanet or any app

Or that verizon haz an app that they are letting people know about. Goodness, doesn't anyone look at the documentation that comes with their phone anymore? VZAccess Manager is the VERIZON website with the app to use the android phones as a tethered hot spot. I would be surprised if they allowed wired tethering and did not allow wifi tethering. Since the wifi tethering has already been started with the palm phones, it is not that far a stretch to allow it on all phones.

i would think it could only help sales to have 2.2 on the phones

i wish we had an option of plain android that didnt require root

Considering HTC directly said second half of the year at the earliest, I don't think so

funny, i am no math major but june is the 6th month out of the year, and 6/12 rounded down is 1/2, which is half the year...sorry just playin, haha

i doubt we will get it before june 4th, but i have a feeling we will see it in the next couple months. but i would like to wrong and see it earlier.

i know its been said before, but 2.1 to 2.2 is not as drastic of a change as it was from 1.6 to 2.1 (ie the hero update). so in theory it should be quicker for htc to roll out a 2.2 update, unless of course they want a whole new sense 2.2 update as well. personally i just want 2.2 with sense 2.1

well i am no math major but 2.1 - 1.5 = .6

and 2.2 - 2.1 = .1

.1/.6 = 1/6

so it should take 1/6 the time to update our phones to 2.2 as it took to update the eris to 2.1

It says Q3 right in the afterdawn.com article. Don't hold your breath for this update. We'd be lucky to see Froyo by halloween

I think the launcher is great, besides all of the obvious upgrades it's ones of the many things that is making me look forward to having 2.2 on my Inc.
