Froyo Coming Aug 6th? Discuss

Haha I totally agree with Kaleb, I have had the Samsung Omnia for 2 years as well before I got the X, I was so tempted to get the original Droid early and pay full price, I always wanted an android phone... good thing I waited, loving my DX!

What are the differences between 2.1 and 2.2?

I just got my X and I am confused about why everyone is so excited about this update.

Will it be a major difference?

WOW! Most people with devices as such know about these things. Just google 2.2 update. But off the top, 10.1 flashplayer mobile is a major difference. Should I tell you what that means? Lol. Have fun with your phone.

If you root now, you'll just lose root when the update installs.

Happy Bday!!

CORRECTION: If you root now you MAY only just lose root when 2.2 installs... you may also not be able to install 2.2 at all. There have been several occurrences where phones would not install an update because the update script was trying to modify a file that wasn't there or was the wrong file size because it had already been modified. Some phones have even bricked this way, and you can bet warranties will NOT cover this.

The smartest thing to do if you are interested in updating to froyo when it drops, is leave your phone alone for now, install the froyo update when it's available and then wait for the devs to root froyo. It shouldn't take that long really. Hell it only took like 6 days for them to root the X on 2.1, right?

Don't just give out blanket answers that are obviously incomplete and risk screwing someone over who might not be that tech savvy.

It's got so many big changes it may also come down as a complete ROM and just re-flash the device. (which would be great for the hacker) No checking for files would be necessary for that. So it may be completely harmless if that's the case.

I can see why an update would check for files it's going to update but for one this big it's probably easier to just re flash. But it's all just guessing right now. I guess could watch and see how the EVO 2.2 upgrade is done.

Yep, I'll be waiting patiently for 2.2 on the X. I'm in no hurry as I really don't see that we'll have much to gain, actually...

I've used Froyo on the Droid and I'd say we have at least two compelling features to gain: Flash and Chrome To Phone. You're going to love those, and more!

Yes, you were beaten by two minutes and by a Dinc owner;):p;):D

If you are challenging the superiority of the Droid X, I will have you know that I am currently at work, and was inturrupted by a phone call!

Nah its big news, suprised no one else had posted it...

It has always been late summer, are these blogs on crack! when it was released Sanjay Jha the CEO said late summer, this is just ******ed!

The Droid X Rom upgrade was moved back to late summer to fix all the Exhange issues that have been discovered since its release. September for a release date.

Well, aren't you sweet. People come on here to get information, not to be talked down to by a-holes. Should I tell you what that means?

+1, but don't worry about people like this. They are not the norm and people learn very quickly who to ask for help and who to avoid.
